Product Description

Figaro Tinto Calatayud 2013 is 100% Garnacha, made from a selection of the best grapes grown in the oldest vineyards. While not truly an "oaked wine", a short stay in oak barrels provides a nice spicy flavor boost.

Tasting notes: Bright violet. Dark berry and cherry aromas show a jammy aspect. Supple and gently sweet, with good lift to its black raspberry and boysenberry flavors. Smooth and broad on the finish, leaving behind a hint of spiciness. Extremely easy to drink and an excellent value.

Winery: Figaro - Bodega Nino Jesus

The Figaro Estate
Bodega Nino Jesus, founded in 1978 within the DO Calatayud denomination. This is an agricultural co-op specialized in grape and cherry production. There are 150 grape growers in the co-op, tending 330 hectares (815 arces) of vines with an average age of more than 30 years. The principal grape variety is Garnacha (also called Garnacha Tinta del Monte or "Red Garnacha from the hills"). Other varieties planted include Tempranillo, Syrah (recent) and the white Macabeo (a.k.a. Viura).

The Figaro Vineyards
The vines grow at altitudes between 650 and 880 meters above sea level on rocky/gravel soils with a minimal organic content. This, along with the vine's age and scant rainfall means very low yields in the range of 1.5 to 2 kilos per plant. Extreme temperature shifts, both seasonal and daytime to nighttime, make for fully ripened grapes which maintain their natural acidity.

The grapes were cold-soaked for 3 days at 10°C to extract as much color as possible before fermentation. After cold-soaking, the temperature is increased to around 18°C and yeast is added to start fermentation. Regular pump-overs are done to enhance skin contact which improves the flavor and color profiles. Fermentation temperature between 22 - 26°C. Fermented dry on skins, pressed. After malolactic fermentation, wine is transferred to barrels. French oak barrels, 2nd, 3rd and 4th fill barrels for 12 months. The grapes were cold-soaked for 3 days at 10°C to extract as much color as possible before fermentation. Review:

"This emphasizes the cinsault parentage of Pinotage in its bright, savory red fruit. It feels cool and clean, finishing with zesty fruit-skin bitterness, the kind of friendly tannins that will play well with a range of charcuterie."

Maipe Torrontes 2016

Maipe Torrontes is made from 100% Torrontes from the Salta region. Manual harvest.
7 day maceration with selected yeasts at 8°-10°C; fermentation with selected yeasts at 12°-14°.
Spring-like nose of fresh white peaches, pears, green apple, green melon and hints of jasmine and rose petals.
On the palate, it has a beautiful structure and acidity along with fruit flavors and plenty of body.  Well balanced, this wine displays a pleasant freshness with citrus notes and a long finish.

Best enjoyed in its youth either by itself, or as a wonderful partner with smoked meats,  mild to medium-strong cheeses, seafood and a great partner for spicy food as well.
