Manual harvest, selection of the grapes from the "Chaillot" parcel, full clusters, fermentation in tanks for 3 weeks, daily remontage and pigeage. Review:

Vivid purple. Highly perfumed, spice- and smoke-accented aromas of ripe dark berries, smoked meat, olive paste and candied violet, lent urgency by a minerally element. At once rich and lively in style, offering concentrated blackberry, blueberry and floral pastille flavors that turn sweeter as the wine opens up. Shows excellent clarity on an impressively long, clinging finish that features youthful, gripping tannins and an emphatic, smoky bacon flourish. All whole clusters. - Josh Raynolds"

“Coming from the granitic soils of the Chaillot lieu-dit and vines planted in 2000, the 2017 Cornas Cuvée Jana is the top cuvée and spent 12-14 months in second- and third-fill demi-muids. Its deep purple color is followed by a powerful, ripe, sexy Cornas that offers rocking notes of black fruits, scorched earth, burning ember, smoked game, and hints of tapenade. Complex, deep, and layered on the palate, yet beautifully balanced, it's a knockout bottle of wine that will benefit from 2-4 years of bottle age and knock your socks off over the following decade or more.” Jeb Dunnuch 95+ pts

Review:

Deep lurid ruby. Smoke-accented blackberry, cherry compote and violet qualities, along with a spicy nuance that builds in the glass. Shows very good depth as well as energy in the mouth, offering sweet blueberry, cherry and candied violet flavors that spread out slowly on the back half. Closes smooth and long, with repeating spice and floral qualities and gentle tannic grip. Made from de-stemmed fruit.- Vinous 92 Points

The 2017 Cornas comes from more sandy soils and was brought up in 3- to 5-year-old demi-muids. It's an elegant, complex Cornas with lots of ripe red and black fruits and plenty of loamy earth, truffle, and spice incense aromas. These carry to a medium to full-bodied, balanced, incredibly classy, elegant Cornas that has terrific tannins, loads of upfront charm, and a great finish.” Jeb Dunnuck 93+ pts

"Whiffs of horse saddle, smoke and anise lend complexity to rich but restrained black plum and cherry on the nose of this wine. The palate is surprisingly riper, ruddy and voluptuous in texture, but balanced by firm, penetrating tannins. Moderately full bodied and solidly framed, it should drink well through 2030. - ANNA LEE C. IIJIMA" - Wine Enthusiast (December 2019), 92 pts

Johann Michel Cuvee Grain Noir 2016

Johann Michel Cuvee Grain Noir is made from 100 percent Syrah

This is delicious. Expressive, deep, rich, silky and juicy.
Well structured and round, it displays red fruit, leather, black cherry, liquorice and black berry aromas.

This Cornas is a blend from 2 different vineyard sites:
- 60% of the final blend is coming from vineyards located on the hillside (16 year old vines on the "coteau") which is planted on sandy soils, decomposed granite and some roicks, giving the strucutre, the spiciness and the licorice type of flavors to the blend.
- the other 40% of the final blend is coming from the bottom of the slope (40 years old vines on the "pied de coteau") which is planted on sandy soils, bringing acidity and balance to the wine.

Manual harvest, selection of the grapes, 100% destemming, fermentation in tanks for 3 weeks, daily remontage and pigeage.
Malolactic fermentation in oak barrels and aging on the lees for 12-18 months in barrels (2 to 4 year old barrels)

Johann Michel Saint-Peray 2017

Made from 50% Marsanne and 50% Roussanne

Johann Michel Saint Peray Blanc has a shining golden yellow color.

The wine is aromatic with white flowers such as acacia and honeysuckle. In the mouth, you will find some lanolin flavors as well as apricot and yellow ripe peach.
The finish is long, delicate and balanced.
It is waxy and very White Burgundy like.

Average age of the vines is 15 years old.

Johann Michel owns 0.5 hectare (1.24 acre) of Saint Peray.

All planted on Granitic soil, with some schist vein. Aromatic with white flowers such as acacia and honeysuckle. In the mouth, you will find some lanolin flavors as well as apricot and yellow ripe peach. The finish is long, delicate and balanced.
It is waxy and very White Burgundy like.

Waxy and Burgundy like being the most important part of tasting wines in Saint-Peray. Most whites are thin and lacking interest.

Great with fresh oysters, Grilled fish, Bresse Chicken cooked in a creamy sauce with morels ...

Review:

"The 2017 Saint-Péray Blanc from Michel checks in as an even split of Marsanne and Roussanne that was brought up all in neutral oak. It’s an outstanding wine as well as a terrific value. Notes of orchard fruits, honeyed minerality, white flowers, and hints of brioche all give way to a medium to full-bodied concentrated, yet elegant Saint-Péray that has good acidity, notable balance, and a great finish. Drink it any time over the coming decade."

Bellevue Cotes de Bordeaux-Castillon Ce Ma Cuvee 2015

Bellevue Cotes de Bordeaux-Castillon Cé Ma Cuvée is made from 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc

The wine is made with 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc. Average age of the vines is 50 years old (everything is between 40 and 60 years old).

Cé Ma Cuvée is a tribute from Michel Lydoire to his 2 daughters:
Cé is for Céline. She is like the Merlot grape varietal. Pleasant and calm.
Ma is for Marina. She is like the Cabernet Franc grape varietal. Tough and with a lot of character.

The color is deep and inky.
The nose is spicy, fruity and oaky with some nice vanilla and coconut aromas.
The mouthfeel is complex, with ripe red and black fruit flavors. Some spiciness and integrated oak flavors.

The wine starts as the Vieilles vignes, but some wine is aged in 500-liter American Oak Barrels for 18 months.
They are using a mix of different toastiness for the barrels. Some high toast and some are medium toast.

This is a fun wine that can be enjoyed with any food, charbroil burgers, grilled vegetables, cheeses ... or even with dark chocolate desserts.

Review:

2015 Castillon Cotes de Bordeaux Cé Ma Cuvée Céline Lydoire focuses this wine on Bellevue's old Merlot plots, blending in Cabernet franc from southern exposures on gravelly soils. It's her top selection, treated to 18 months in new 400-liter oak barrels; she started making it at the behest of her French customers, who wanted a step up from her cool and refreshing Cuvée Tradition. This is just as cool, but more saturated in its distinctly Castillon fruit flavor—think wild strawberries and blueberries with an earthy mineral undercurrent. That silky fruit gains its supple impression from the new oak, which boosts the textural richness. As I thought about how to score this wine, I found myself writing, "If that were from California, I'd be all over it." Absolutely. But it's also got Castillon limestone clarity. And, it's $27. Review:

A bigger, richer wine, the 2015 Cornas Jana is a tiny-production cuvée and the flagship release for the estate. Completely destemmed and aged in older barrels, it offers a killer bouquet of graphite, crushed rocks, new saddle leather and layers of black raspberry and black cherry fruit. This full-bodied, concentrated, tannic effort is going to rival, if not surpass, the 2010. -Wine Advocate 94-96 Points

Review:

The 2015 Lirac La Reine des Bois continues this estate's mastery of the appellation, combining hints of vanilla with black cherry fruit in a full-bodied, richly textured and tannic wine. The blend is 40% Syrah, 30% Grenache and 30% Mourvèdre, with up to 15% being aged in barriques. Longtime readers will be happy to know that the 2010 (still youthful) and the 2006 (nearing maturity) are drinking well. Based on that, expect this vintage to drink well through at least 2030.-Wine Advocate 93 Points
