Poggio San Polo Rosso di Montalcino 2021

Bright and glossy ruby red in color. On the nose it reveals aromas of small fresh berries and a trace of sour cherry, melded with hints of blackberries and black cherries, followed by a hint of vanilla. A fragrant wine with satisfying intensity. On the palate it is warm, smooth and a medium-bodied with finely-balanced tannins. Dry and sinewy yet fresh with a persistent, aromatic finish.

It naturally accompanies dishes that are typical of Tuscan cuisine with its bold, authentic flavors, such as pasta and risottos made with mushrooms or truffles, pork, grilled meats and medium-matured cheeses.

 Review:

Notes of ripe cherries, dried flowers and walnuts with hints of anisette and licorice. Medium- to full-bodied, compact and dense with creamy tannins and steady acidity. Weighty and structured. Drink or hold.

Tenuta di Nozzole La Forra Chianti Classico Riserva 2020

Tenuta di Nozzole La Forra Chianti Classico Riserva is made from 100% Sangiovese.

Located north of the village of Greve in the heart of the Chianti Classico region, the Nozzole estate covers a striking, rugged, mountainous area of about 1,000 acres at 984 feet in elevation. In order to obtain concentration and complexity in the wine, yields are kept low. The grapes are hand harvested, destemmed and crushed. Fermentation is initiated on the skins in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by a maceration period to draw out color and tannins. The wine is racked into stainless steel tanks for malolactic fermentation before aging in oak vats and in bottle before release. The wine is bottled on the estate.

The 2020 vintage was characterized by a basically cold period between April and May and by a generally warm and dry climate until July. The initial slight delay of the vegetative cycle has been recovered since the summer. The sudden increase in temperatures, especially for the later varieties where the fruit set had not yet ended, has favored a production characterized by sparse and light bunches. The stable and sunny climate of the months of August and September allowed the grapes to complete ripening in optimal conditions.

  • A classic, traditional Chianti from the Folonari family, making wine since the 1700s
  • Matured in oak barrels
  • Estate bottled, from a highly regarded estate

Product Description

Maggiolo Chianti Classico D.O.C.G. is a taste of the joyful sunniness of our area. The name of this tasty, rounded wine is based on that of the iris (“giaggiolo”), a typical flower of the Lamole area that dots our vineyards in the month of May (“Maggio”) when it is at the height of its splendor. We can perceive it in the enchanting sensations and the gentle, soothing textures it offers us with every sip.

The grapes are destalked and the berries are passed through an optical selector. After pressing, the must ferments with the skins in stainless steel tanks, where it remains until late in winter, keeping the Sangiovese separate from the must/wine from the international varieties. Follows a period of maturation of around one-year and a half in oak casks for the Sangiovese and in barriques for the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

This wine goes marvelously with dishes that contain spices or have piquant sensations, or herby recipes. It is also ideal with various types of soups, especially those made from chickpeas, wild peas or lentils and simply seasoned with extra virgin olive oil. Try it too with the meat dishes of Asian or South American cuisines.

Winery: Lamole di Lamole

Chianti Classico is one of the most famous and important regions in Italy for the production of great wines, and one of the most distinctive, unspoiled and atmospheric anywhere in the world.

Its natural landscapes and its proud cities, capable for centuries of enchanting generations of travelers and artists, photographers and poets, include the territories of 9 municipal areas, in the Provinces of Florence (in the northern part) and Siena (towards the south)

In the great “sea” of clay that covers the whole of central Tuscany, Chianti Classico is an unexpected island of stones; the sandstones of the Apennines and their crumbly sands mix in a complex underground conglomeration with the other major rocks, such as “galestro” (a clayey schist, in blocks or split into flakes) and the hard white limestone known as “alberese”.

For Sangiovese, which has always been the ruling grape in this zone, this chaotic polychromy is paradise. Sublimating this exceptional location in wines that are equally complex is the task that fascinates us.

The hill of Lamole is, in the overall picture of Chianti Classico, a place apart. Farmsteads, drinking troughs, little bridges and isolated villas face each other on wood-covered cliffs, dotted here and there with terraces, strips of land torn from the crags.

One’s gaze, from the top of the vineyards, embraces a horizon of wonderful scope, as one looks towards the sunset; in late spring, while the wind spreads the perfume of iris and blooming furze, our vines also flower.

Cave Carod Clairette de Die

Cave Carod Clairette de Die is made from 75% Muscat Petits Grains and 25% Clairette. Clairette de Die is produced with the ancestral dioise method.
The grapes are rapidly pressed after the harvest and then placed in vats at low temperatures (replicating the process used by the Voconces in ancient times who kept the jars in the icy waters of their local rivers). The half-fermented must is bottled and fermentation continues in the bottle, giving a naturally sparkling wine. Disgorging occurs at least six months after bottling, while the wine still contains sugar and has reached an alcohol content of 7 to 9 %.

This is a sparkling wine with very fine bubbles, light in alcohol (8°), and containing residual sugar (incomplete fermentation). Clairette de Die has been known since ancient times (dates back to 77 A.D.). Clairette brings delicacy and lightness to the wine whereas Muscat gives its typical sweet flavor. The wine displays intense aromas, a refreshing balance of fruit and acidity with peach, orange and white flowers flavors.
This is an ideal wine for all desserts and ice creams, and is very interesting with foie gras. It is especially suitable for daytime meetings and cocktail parties.  A great breakfast wine!
Wine to be consumed young, to conserve the full fruity and floral flavors.  To be stored flat in a cool room away from light.
