"Rinaldi made a 2011 "Bug Juice" Pink from 90% Moscato d’Asti and 10% Brachetto d’Acqui. This is an addictive, light pink-colored, frothy rose that is quite low in alcohol, with deliciously sweet strawberry and cherry notes intermixed with hints of peach and apricot. Just stunning, there is much less of it available (800 cases). I can imagine that if you’re sitting by the pool on a hot summer day, this wine would be the perfect accompaniment."

Winery: Rinaldi

The Rinaldi Estate
The winery is located on the hills of Alto Monferrato, close to Acqui Terme, in the heart of one of the most precious areas of south Piedmont. The family business was founded in 1961 by Oreste Rinaldi. It is run today by his son Andrea and his daughter Paola. The family has been producing wine for 40 years from their vineyards located on a particularly privileged area with a favorable microclimate and a perfect southwestern exposure

The Rinaldi Vineyard
Currently Rinaldi has 20 hectares of vines (49.6 acres), 19hectares owned, 1 hectares rented.  Their single vineyard Bricco Cardogno, planted to Moscato, is a vineyard that measures 2.5 hectares (6.75 acres) and was planted 40 years ago by Andrea Rinaldi’s grandfather. It is located 240- 300 m above sea level. The soil type in this vineyard is limestone (tufa). All grapes are hands harvested with extreme care. Quality starts in the vineyard.  The single vineyard Bricco Rioglio is planted with Brachetto grapes, limestone based with 15-year-old vines. (Bricco is a tea cup in local dialect).

Bright pale yellow color filled with golden and apricot reflections.

Seductive bouquet rich in orange blossoms, peaches and apricots intertwined with hints of tropical fruits and honey.
Ligthly frizzante due to the naturally retained CO2with sweet soft velvety fruit on the palate and a refreshingly dry and lingering finish. This is a unique wine of extraordinary delicacy and finesse.

The other "Bug Juice"!

Robert Parker says "this tropical fruit bomb of an aperitif wine defines the words 'seduction' and 'delicious'."

The grapes are soft pressed and the free run juice is placed in stainless steel tanks where it is allowed to settle (sedimentation) and then passed through a centrifuge. The fined must is then passed through a filter of diatomaceous earth and placed in autoclaves of stainless steel. Specially selected yeast are added and fermentation is controlled at 17 degrees. There is no malolactic fermentation and the wine is held in the tanks at 0 degree. At the time of bottling the temperature is raised again to 17 degrees, and when the ideal balance between sugar and acidity is reached and the desired atmospheric pressure is obtained, 2 atmospheres of pressure (usually 2 weeks), the wine is cooled to block further fermentation and again filtered. It is then bottled. Only 5.5% of alcohol.

Brunch wine excellent with ice cream, fruits, salads.

Toso Fragolino Rosso Spago

Rinaldi Red Dream NV

Rinaldi Red Dream is made from 100% Malvasia

this wine is obtained with  a cold maceration (13° C) for 48 hours. We work in this way just to extract the color and the wine scent from the peels.
Then we soft press the grapes and we separate the solid part from the liquid part and we have the juice.
Then we keep the wine at 0 degree Celcius (32 degrees Fahrenheit) temperature and we have a natural cleaning of the must.
When we decide to bottle it the temperature increased at about 17 degrees Celcius, and when we reach 5.5% Alcohol by Volume and the desired atmospheric pressure is obtained, about  2 atmospheres, we block the fermentation with the cold and we filter it again and
finally, we put it in bottle.
The wine is ruby red but not too deep, fruity and pleasant. It's a dessert wine, it is possible to appreciate it at his best if you serve it chilled.

This frothy and fruity red wine delivers flavors of honeysuckle and black pepper. Light, fun and exciting; it’s great for parties and light fare. 100 % Malvasia Nera.

"The non-vintage Rinaldi Red Dream, which comes from 100% Malvasia Nera, has about 7% alcohol, so it is slightly more potent than its two siblings. Gorgeously fresh and frothy, with loads of cherry, honeysuckle, spice box and spring flowers, this is an exciting party wine that is brilliantly packaged, and I doubt a person can be found who would dislike it. However, these wines are meant to be drunk in their exuberant youth, so this one as well as the following two efforts should be consumed over the next 6-12 months."
- Wine Advocate (Issue 201, June 2012), 90 pts

"This Wine is a bit heavier than a bracchetto, but it shares the sweetness, effervescence and low alcohol that make it a delicious dessert wine. The added weight suggests pairing it with desserts that include ice cream."

Keermont Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

The 2014 vintage is the maiden release of Cabernet Sauvignon from Keermont Vineyards. All the grapes come from their Cottage Lane Vineyard on the mid-slopes of the Helderberg. This vineyard is situated on the crest of a ridge (320m above sea level) so has aspects ranging from East through North to West. It is very exposed resulting in small vines with low yields. This has allowed them to make a relatively fine grained Cabernet, but the clay soils translate to a wine with power, tension and fresh acidity.

Rich crimson red color. The nose is a complex mix of savoury notes: crushed herbs, violets, sandalwood, leather and some lovely bright red fruit. The palate is fine and yet powerful. Lush spicy red fruit is complimented by blueberry and bramble notes. Powerful tight-knit tannin and a very linear acidity afford the wine a long succulent finish. Drink 2017-2030

All grapes used in producing their wines are grown on Keermont Vineyards. Small parcels of grapes are specifically selected according to ripeness, harvested by hand and vinified separately. This process is carried out gently and naturally in open top fermenters using traditional methods only. This wine spent 22 months maturing in 225 Litre French oak barrels before being bottled by hand without filtration. They produced just 3654 bottles. The wine was bottle matured in the Keermont cellar for a further 18 months before release.

VINTAGE REPORT
The season’s winter was generally mild, but became cold and wet towards spring time. Keermont experienced record rainfall and even snow on the mountains during August 2013. This allowed for good vine growth during the spring, but also increased the mildew pressure and resulted in an unusually large insect population. Fortunately neither of these had a major impact on our crop. Our soils stayed moist throughout the growing season thanks to moderate temperatures and we hardly had to irrigate at all before harvest. A series of heat waves in early February jolted us into harvest action. The vines, which had been very nurtured by all the moisture, suddenly started to show some signs of stress and we needed to pick quite a few of the blocks over a short period. The favourable growing conditions contributed to a healthy crop of 150 tons for Keermont Vineyards.

Review:

"This is the first vintage of this varietal Cabernet, grown on red clay loam soils at 300 metres. The vines are still quite young, but it’s a superb début, with subdued oak, savoury, perfumed top notes, fine-grained tannins and pure cassis and wild herb flavours. One to watch. 2019-25."

- Tim Atkin (South Africa 2017 Special Report), 93 pts

"The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon is a new addition to the Keermont range. It comes from a single, low-yielding block, although it will not be labelled as such, from loamy soils around 300 meters above sea level. Most of the maturation is in 225-liter barrels with around 20% new oak. It has a straightforward bouquet, perhaps not quite as personality-driven as the Cabernet Franc at the moment, but developing pleasing graphite/pencil box scents with time. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, good body and presence in the mouth with that graphite theme continuing from the aromatics. Well balanced and harmonious towards the finish, I would afford this a couple of years in bottle to develop more varietal character. - Neal Martin"
