"Well priced and very appealing, this is part of a line up of really enjoyable, harmoniously oaked wines from Burgo Viejo, made from Tempranillo and 5% Graciano. Pepper spicy and refined, with clean, modern, textured blackberry fruit and a fresh, tangy finish. 2019-24."

"Sweet, ripe, plummy nose followed by notes of rosemary and thyme. Enlivening wine with a long and complex aftertaste." Decanter 90 Points
"(raised in a 50/50 combination of new and used French and American oak barrels for 18 months) Vivid ruby-red. An expansive, highly perfumed bouquet evokes ripe black and blue fruits, cola, incense and toasty oak, with a sexy floral overtone. Silky and broad on the palate, offering concentrated black raspberry, cherry-vanilla and coconut flavors that become spicier with aeration. In an emphatically fruity style, showing solid closing thrust, strong persistence and gently gripping tannins. - Josh Raynolds"

"A small step up in price, the 2014 Reserva (85% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano, and 5% Mazuelo) has a similar elegance and purity, with classic vanilla-laced notes of spice, garrigue, cedar, and both cherry and darker currant-like fruits. It’s balanced, has fine tannins, and is an outstanding wine. I like it today, but I suspect it’s capable of keeping for a decade."

This wine is our tribute to the flagship grape variety of Rioja Baja. Garnacha has been grown in Alfaro for many
centuries in perfect balance with the local soils and climate which result in our intensely fruity wines,
full-bodied and with velvety soft tannins. Deep and brilliant cherry color; red wild berries, violet and subtle
spice on the nose; the taste sensation is rich, long, and very smooth.
Excellent when combined with red meat, pasta dishes and even chocolate desserts.
Review:
"Ripe wild raspberry and cassis fruits that are really brambly and expressive. The palate is all raspberry with smooth tannins and gently tangy appeal. Drink now."

GOLD MEDAL - Vinalies International Competition 2017
Burgo Viejo Rioja Tinto 2011 is made from 85 percent Tempranillo,10 percent Garnacha and 5 percent Mazuelo
"(85% tempranillo, 10% garnacha and 5% mazuelo): Vivid ruby. Primary red and dark berry aromas show good energy and a slightly jammy aspect. Smooth, seamless and sweet, with lively black raspberry and boysenberry flavors and a hint of black pepper. Finishes smooth with very soft tannins and sweet berry notes."

"From a cooperative of six families founded in 1987, Burgo Viejo’s delicious 2011 Tinto (a blend of 85% Tempranillo and the rest 10% Grenache and 5% Mazuelo, aged largely in concrete vats) is a mid-weight Spanish fruit bomb. Loads of black cherry and black currant fruit intermixed with some licorice, tobacco leaf and spice box jump from the glass of this deep ruby/purple-tinged wine. It is medium-bodied, lush and ideal for drinking over the next several years. Don’t expect complexity, but rather a hedonistic style of Rioja that sells for a song."

The Burgo Viejo Estate
Six families of farmers founded Bodegas Burgo Viejo in 1987 (with the next generation coming onboard, it is now sixteen families working together). Burgo Viejo´s main asset has always been the exquisite winemaking process of grapes collected from its own vineyards throughout the years, back to the times when they were just a wine cellar selling in bulk (they started as a cooperative in the 1950’s). Burgo Viejo wines are exported to Japan, China, Denmark, UK, Belgium and the U.S. (export markets represent 5-10% of the production). Young Gorka Etxebarria is the leading winemaker and has been working with Burgo Viejo since December 2003.
The Burgo Viejo Vineyards
The vineyards measure 200 hectares – 494 acres – (90% tinto, 5% rosado, 5% blanco) and spread throughout the municipality of Alfaro, La Rioja, Spain at the foothills of Yerga Mountain, on the banks of the fertile Ebro Valley. This area offers a huge diversity of soils and microclimates where the grape varietals, Tempranillo, Mazuelo, Garnacha, Carignan, Graciano and Viura grow to become Burgo Viejo wines.
Most of the vines are 30 years old. Some Garnacha are over 90 years old and some young organic Graciano have been planted. The types of oak used are 90% American and 10% French.
Philippe Milan Pommard AOC is 100% Pinot Noir
This wine has been aged in Oak (25% new Oak)
This is a little more structured and the style goes more toward the
"vin de garde", or wines meant to age. This wine needs some food, or sometime
in the decanter right now. It is well structured and reminds me of a Volnay. As
a matter of fact, the parcel is located right next to Volnay. The finish is
long and still quite juicy with chewy tannins lingering.
Clos Solene Fleur de Solene is made from 40% Syrah, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon and 26% Grenache .
This wine was made for Guillaume’s wife Solène.
A superb balanced vintage. Delicate and fruit forward, a vintage ready to drink sooner. Separated by vineyards in different size vessels, we blended it after 14 months and bottled after 16. It has 30% new oak and offers some notes of black fruits. It is well balanced with great refined tannins. This wine is easy to drink now even though it can age for 10 years.
Pairs great with Boeuf Bourguignon, leg of lamb
Review:
"The 2018 Fleur de Solene checks in as 53% Syrah, 27% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 20% Grenache from a handful of sites in the Willow Creek District and spent 18 months in 20% new French oak. Beautiful cassis and black raspberry fruits as well as notes of white flowers, spicy oak, and ground pepper all emerge from the glass, and it's full-bodied, beautifully balanced, and elegant on the palate, with terrific tannins. It's already hard to resist, yet I think it will be even better with 2-3 years of bottle age and keep for over a decade." - Jeb DUNNUCK (September 1st 2020), 96 pts
