A more Grenache-dominated cuvée that includes some younger vines, the 2023 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée Les Silex is 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah from the Cabrières lieu-dit that was partially destemmed and brought up all in concrete. It exhibits a deeper ruby hue as well as classic notes of black cherries, earth, garrigue, and leather. This carries to a medium-bodied, concentrated, slightly foursquare, yet satisfying effort offering solid overall balance and length.

Grippy tannins take away some of the wine’s elegance.

Previously released as the Cuvée Prestige, the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Esprit is based on 50% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 15% Mourvèdre, and the rest a mix of other permitted varieties. It was 80% destemmed and is still resting in a mix of concrete tanks and old barrels. It’s impressive, with lots of up-front, ripe black cherry-like fruit as well as notes of spice, orange blossom, sandalwood, and pepper. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has ripe, yet present tannins, a kiss of background oak, good acidity, and outstanding length. There are roughly 2,300 cases produced, and it’s going to have two decades of longevity.

Showing some maturity yet still with plenty of beautiful fruit, the 2012 Châteauneuf Du Pape reveals a lively ruby, translucent hue to go with classic mulled cherry and darker currant fruits intermixed with notions of licorice, tapenade, iron, and peppery garrigue. Medium-bodied and nicely textured, with ripe yet integrated tannins, this classic, complex Châteauneuf du Pape will drink well for another decade or more.

The 2012 Châteauneuf du Pape was still in tank at the time of this tasting, and it shows slightly better this go-round than last year. Made from 50% Grenache, 20% each of Syrah and Mourvedre, and splash of Cinsault, it’s a medium-bodied, elegant and downright pretty Châteauneuf that has classic kirsch and sweet red berry fruits, spice and garrigue aromas and flavors. It shows the approachable, classic style of the vintage and will have 10-12 years of longevity.

Beautiful pale gold color with green reflections. The wine is clear and bright.

Deep and brilliant, purple-red colour. An exciting nose with aromas of black fruit (blackcurrant, cherry) spices and vanilla. This great aromatic complexity is found on the palate : the spices and ripe fruit appear with an elegant woodiness and harmonious tannins. The finish has good aromatic length and introduces a touch of liquorice and pepper.

Soil type Extreme north of Châteauneuf du Pape. This plateau is made with a high quantity of red clay mixed with rocks. This area is considerated to be one of the best to produce rich and powerful red wines. By definition, LES ORIGINES will always deliver a great complexity and ageing potential. The 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape les Origines is rich and intense, a full-bodied, velvety wine with wow-level concentration. Blackberries and plums line the palate, finishing long, with hints of salted licorice. As usual, it's a blend of approximately 50% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre and 20% Syrah, with the Grenache maturing in tanks and the rest in older barrels.

Although matured in 50% new oak, a core of pristine black cherry and cassis flavors entices in this blend of Grenache (50%), Mourvèdre (30%) and Syrah (20%). The 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Les Origines (50% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre, and 20% Syrah aged in 50% new oak) is similarly deep purple and offers a straight-up stunning bouquet of ripe cassis and blackberry fruits intermixed with chocolate, Asian spices, cured meats, and new leather. A powerful, concentrated, rich 2019, it has a great mid-palate, building yet ripe tannins, no hard edges, and a great finish. The purity of fruit here is top notch, and while it's unquestionably a modern style Châteauneuf, the oak is nicely integrated and I suspect will disappear completely with 5-6 years of bottle age.

This 2016 has opened up and is drinking great right now. A blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah. Elegant cherry red color, with expressive notes of red fruits (strawberry and raspberry). The Arnaud family has owned the Château Cabrières property for three generations. In 2009, Guy Arnaud handed over the estate to his daughter, Agnes Arnaud, married to Patrick Vernier. Today, Agnes and Patrick are run the estate together.
The name ‘Cabrières’ comes from the Latin name Capraria, designating a place where goats are raised.
Château Cabrières is located in the village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, in the Vaucluse department. The property dates back many centuries, indicated by a bread oven door that was discovered and preserved - the stone cut recalls the technique used in the 14th and 15th centuries. This proves the historic nature of the Chateau and its vine stock, both of which benefit from the flinty nature of the local soil, where vines have been planted since 1344.

Arzuaga Ladera del Norte Ribera del Duero is made from 100% Tempranillo.
The grapes come from organic crops and are harvested from the "Valdesardon" farm, owned by the Arzuaga Navarro family, which is the westernmost vineyard of the Ribera del Duero DO, located at an altitude of 800 meters in the village of Olivares de Duero. Clay-limestone soil on a hillside that will mark the characteristics of the wine.
The wine is of medium high intensity in color, a clear and bright cherry with purple flashes. An array of red fruits such as raspberry and cherry predominates with a high aromatic intensity, combining with balsamic tones, coffee and roasted notes coming from the aging in oak barrels without being overwhelming. Timeless Notes:
Dark cherry in color, firm on the palate with a vibrant acidity underbelly. Thought lush on the palate the flavors are complex and elegant from entry to mid-palate with hints of currant and wild berries. The finish brings in a touch of tobacco and leather notes ,classic examples of this region, with more ripe fruit flavors that linger on long strain tannin finish. Complex with depth and elegance on the palate. This one is drinking now, but can handle more time in the cellar with ease. An excellent value in the Riserva category.
Lodovico Barolo Cannubi is made from 100% Nebbiolo.
With a ruby-red color, the Barolo Cannubi has a rich bouquet which gradually recalls the scents of roses flowers, truffles and wood spice. The palate is at first elegant and refined, then is begins to gain in complexity with a little breathing or decanting.

Nebbiolo is a native black grape variety of Piedmont that gives birth also Barolo and Barbaresco. The name ‘Nebbiolo’ derives from the word ‘fog’ and there could be two reasons. The first hypothesis traces the name of Nebbiolo back to the obscured, almost clouded appearance of the grape, covered with abundant bloom. The second hypothesis, more suggestive, is linked to the very late ripening of the grapes: the Nebbiolo grape harvest often takes place in late October, when the vineyards are enveloped in morning mists.

Tinel Blondelet Pouilly-Fume Genetin is made from 100 percent Sauvignon Blanc.
The soil is made of "caillottes" (limestone stones).
"Genetin" is a name given in homage to the original name for Sauvignon Blanc: Muscat Genetin. The Genetin bottling is normally reserved for the most powerful Cuvées in the winery. No oak.
Produced from 25 year-old vines coming from the Villiers limestone terroir, situated in Bouchot.
Traditional vinification in thermo-regulated stainless steel tanks. Following a gentle pressing the juice is then fermented at controlled temperatures before being left to mature on its fine lees to gain extra depth and concentration before bottling in the next spring.
Matured on fine lees bringing finesse to the wine and bottled late in order to let all its roundness evolve.

A golden colored and mineral wine with elegance and finesse. Can be cellared for 2-3 years.

The 2020 ‘Machete’ is a proprietary blend of Petite Sirah, Syrah and Grenache that was stored in 34% new French oak for 14 months before bottling. A soft texture greets you as green peppercorns greet you alongside black currant jelly, cigar ash and dark chocolate shavings with kirsch cordial notes. Considering the vintage, this is a really good effort.
