The S.C.V Castelmaure Estate
S.C.V. Castelmaure was founded in the 1920’s and today consists of 65 members, of which 15 bring 85% of the production. The winery is located in the unofficial Corbieres cru site of Durban (there are 11 unofficial Cru’s in Corbieres), which will become soon an official Cru together with Boutenac and Alaric. The Serre mountain in the south protects the little plateau of Castelmaure from the off weather patterns of the Mediterranean sea.
Patrick de Marien, the president of the cave, and Bernard Pueyo, the director, work in conjunction with Tardieu/Laurent in trying to produce wines of higher quality each year.

The S.C.V Castelmaure Vineyard
The AOC Corbieres was created in 1985 and measures 23,000 hectares (56,810 acres). The appellation requires a minimum of two grapes in a wine blend.
The co-op farms 350 hectares (868 acres) around the tiny hamlet of Embres et Castelmaure.  The 760 parcels are inspected and the characteristics recorded on computer. Each parcel is supervised individually by a technician who dedicates his time to this task. They have re-learned to prune, plough, check yields, sort, select, with a permanent focus on the respect of the environment. All the grapes are harvested by hand. In the cellar, vats hygiene, temperature control, ultramodern pressing contribute to a better expression of the terroir.
Castelmaure produces 90% red wine of which 80% is A.O.C. Corbieres.
The soil is made of schist, limestone, alluvial river wash and argilo-calcaire.

Xavier Chateauneuf du Pape Rouge 2015

Xavier Vignon, along with Philippe Cambie, are probably the two most highly renowned oenologists in Chateauneuf du Pape as well as some of the surrounding Cotes du Rhone regions. Vignon’s office and laboratory are next to the Auto Route A7, in the same complex as Chateau Husson. He is the consultant for such well-known domaines as Raymond Usseglio, Jerome Quiot, Beaurenard, La Nerthe, Mont Redon, Marcoux, Grand Veneur and La Gardine. I tasted through the new and upcoming Xavier Vignon releases. The blend of Xavier Vignon’s Chateauneuf du Pape can vary considerably. Vignon told me that it is a selection from nearly 120 different parcels in the appellation. Fashioned from the best fruit from old vines planted in the finest parcels is the Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Anonyme. Xavier Vignon is not going to release the 2007 Anonyme (his greatest Chateauneuf du Pape to date) until 2013 so readers have a chance of getting some of this production. I tasted three vintages of this cuvee with Vignon.

Review:The 2015 Châteauneuf-du-Pape started out slightly reticent, yet blossomed with time in the glass. Cassis, leafy herbs, lead pencil/graphite and earthy notes all flow to a ripe, full-bodied, beautifully balanced 2015 that has sweet tannin. Made from 65% Grenache, 20% Mourvèdre and 15% Syrah, aged in very old barrels, it’s a terrific base cuvée in 2015 that’s going to drink nicely for a decade. -Jeb Dunnuck 93 Points

Big Table Farm Yamhill Carlton Pinot 2015

This wine represents the best of the Yamhill Carlton AVA and is adorned by one of the many historic barns of the county.  The 2015 Yamhill-Carlton is made from the fruit of the Coats and Whitney and Kalita Vineyards, both farmed impeccably by Daniel Fey and the team at Results Partners.

tasting notes— This wine shows heady aromas of plum, raspberry preserve, vanilla, toasted oak, wet earth.  Palate has liqueur qualities, juicy, toasted oak, and subtle campfire smoke, leather and black cherry. Full ripe tannins on the finish add unexpected but well received structure on the palate despite its openness to express all its qualities.  This for me is really spot on for the AVA especially in a warm vintage.

Review:

This aromatic wine is the ripest of the winery's fine lineup of 2015 Pinots, with a sweet, soft, round and smooth entry. Its pretty strawberry and cherry fruit is swathed in mocha, proving supple and immediately appealing. The still slightly stiff tannins suggest further improvement awaits over the next five years. -Wine Enthusiast 91 Points

Precise and distinctive, with expressive raspberry, crushed rock and forest floor accents that build structure and tannins toward the finish. Drink now through 2024. 303 cases made. — TF Wine Spectator 91 points

Lurid red. Perfumed aromas of fresh cherry and red berries, candied rose and smoky minerals, backed by a building hint of white pepper. Juicy and focused on the palate, offering bitter cherry and raspberry flavors that gain sweetness and depth with air. Finishes on a spicy note, displaying very good tenacity, sneaky tannins and repeating floral and red fruit notes.Josh Raynolds — Vinous  91 points

The knock-out, full-bodied 2012 La Dame Rousse Tavel Rose (60% Grenache and the rest Syrah, Cinsault, Mourvedre, Bourboulenc and Clairette) offers complex notes of flowers, raspberries, loamy soil, pepper and spice. Dry, exuberant and loaded with personality as well as character, it should provide plenty of pleasure over the next year.-Wine Advocate #208 Aug 2013 90 Points

"The color is a light salmon rose. The nose reveals dried floral and red grapefruit aromas followed by textured, sweet spices. The mouth follows the nose with dry, delicate red fruit, a little dusty in texture, and fresh acidity. There are some ripe tannins and spices in the finish and aftertaste. All of this is delivered with confidence and moderate weight. In the end this is quite a pretty wine for drinking over the next several years. Now-2015."
