The Chateau Suau Estate
Hidden behind a row of 100-year-old oaks, Chateau Suau was once the hunting lodge of the Duc d'Epernon. It was restored in the 16th century and in 1687, during the reign of Louis XVI, the chateau was owned by the Suau family of Capian. Monique Bonnet purchased the Château in 1986. She lends her impeccable style and elegance to this Bordeaux estate that represents a great value in today’s French wine market.
Important changes have been implemented at Chateau Suau since 2008 :

1/ A change in the AOC. From the 2008 vintage on, Chateau Suau's « Premieres Cotes de Bordeaux » will now be known as « Cotes de Bordeaux and « Cotes de Bordeaux -Cadillac ».
There will no longer be « Premières Cotes de Bordeaux »
Château Suau will use the appellation "Cadillac" on its labels due to its area of production. This "village" appellation lends itself to its enduring notoriety and the image that it represents. As with its namesake, the luxury Cadillac, this wine is the "Cadillac" of wines!
As a result of these changes, all the labels and packaging have been redesigned to reflect the new appellations. These labels will be a reflection of the strong and symbolic identity with Cadillac. This AOC is made with a rigorous set of specifications, which allow it to be named after the village of Cadillac.

Chateau Suau Tradition "Premieres Cotes de Bordeaux" becomes Chateau SUAU Cotes de Bordeaux
Chateau Suau Prestige "Premieres Cotes de Bordeaux" becomes Chateau SUAU Cotes de Bordeaux - Cadillac

2/ Since 2008, Chateau Suau has been converting its vineyard to organic agriculture techniques. Certified by Ecocert, sensitive to environmental problems and consumer-concerns, this healthy, progressive and sensitive conversion will be completed in the year 2012. This action also stays true to Chateau Suau's history for exceptional quality as it was once the home of Joseph Guenant, Vice President of the Agricultural Society.

Chateau Suau is one of the first vineyards of Bordeaux to start its ISO 14 001 certification. This process begins by implementing an EMS, Environnemental Management System (SME in French) of the wines of Bordeaux, intiated by our CIVB. The EMS aims to reduce the impact of wine production on the environment while improving overall productivity.
This environmental management tool integrates both energy consumption, the sorting and recycling of waste, methods of pest control, cropping patterns, health and safety of employees, residents and consumers.....We feel that these changes complement perfectly with our approach to an organic farming culture.

The Chateau Suau Vineyard
The vineyard is situated in the Cotes de Bordeaux-Cadillac appellations, and encompasses 65 hectares (160.55 acres) of red grapes: 10% Cabernet Franc, 55% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Sauvignon; and 7 hectares (17.3 acres) of white grapes: 50% Sémillon, 30% Sauvignon, and 20% Muscadelle. The vines, planted in gravel and clay "terroir", benefit from favorable south-south east facing slopes and plateaus.
The vineyard is farmed with the culture raisonnée method, in conversion to an organic farming. The soil has a gravel and clay base. The red wines are aged in a combination of French oak barrels. No oak is used for the dry white wine produced.

Xavier Vignon Chateauneuf du Pape XV Rouge 2018

Xavier Vignon Chateauneuf du Pape XV Rouge is made from 50% Grenache, 45% Mourvèdre and 5% Syrah. From 100 year old vines.

It shows a bit of toasty oak up front but balances that with ample black cherry fruit and soft, dusty tannins. Long and harmonious on the finish, it should drink well on release in 2019 and for a decade or more after that.

Pairs with beef with mustard sauce - Pork tenderloin with winter vegetables - Roasted duck - Malaysian pork chop and spice tea.

Review:

Checking in as equal parts Syrah and Mourvèdre, the 2018 Châteauneuf Du Pape XV will certainly be an outstanding wine. It sports a deep purple color as well as lots of black and blue fruits, leafy herbs, cracked pepper, and a touch of minerality. Medium to full-bodied, it has good balance, terrific purity, and outstanding length.

My Favorite Neighbor Cabernet Sauvignon 2020

My Favorite Neighbor Cabernet Sauvignon is made from 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petite Sirah, 8% Petit Verdot, 2% Malbec, 2% Cabernet Franc and 2% Syrah .

A homage to Stephan Asseo of L’Aventure Winery became an obsession. With their dedication to the land, we are able to craft a world class wine without any shortcuts or compromises. Rubus Special Edition Barossa Shiraz 2018

Rubus Special Edition Barossa Shiraz is made from 100 percent

The Rubus Project was created by Fran Kysela as a way to source & sell incredible wines at value prices. All wines in this international project are hand-selected by Fran Kysela. Rubus wines are fruit driven, true-to-type values that over deliver - a true representation of quality for the consumer at an excellent price.

Deep red with a slight purple hue on release. The wine has a rich mix of dark chocolate infused with coffee bean and black liquorice, then scents of tar, aniseed, raw (pure) soy and black olive on the nose. The palate is expansive, and yet balanced and finessed. An amalgam of dark berried flavors and textural sensations. The 100% new oak is completely absorbed, meshed with ripe tannins, completing a palate of impressive length and youthfulness.

Sourced from Thorn-Clarke’s St Kitts vineyard (Block 7) in the far north of the Barossa, the Rubus Reserve demonstrates both the strengths of the region and the unique characters of the vineyard.

A thin layer of topsoil over weathered marble, schist and shale mean the vines work hard to source water and nutrients. The result is naturally low yields concentrating the power and density of the fruit.  Diurnal temperature variation is another important aspect of St. Kitts.  Warm daytime temperatures are followed by cool nights with variations of up to 30°C (55°F) from the peak during the day into the cool night minimums.

Review:

“Earthy detail develops in this sleek and juicy shiraz, a tarry streak under fresh plum and bruised strawberry. The tannins have gravity and precision, their bracing intensity and concentration integrated into what panelist David Hawkins described as “a big, powerful wine with great liveliness.” While suited to aging, this is accessible now if you’re grilling meats to serve with it.”

"Made by Thorn-Clarke for the US market, this has a rich and vivid nose with blueberry, violet, dark plum and subtle oak spice in play. The palate has a succulent feel with plenty of rich, open-knit blackberry and blueberry flavor. Smoothly delivered tannins carry long and even. Drink over the next decade."

Elvio Cogno Pre-Phylloxera Barbera d'Alba 2020

Elvio Cogno Pre-Phylloxera Barbera d'Alba is made from 100 percent Barbera.

Produced from one of the last archaic vines of the Langhe area, an open air museum of viticulture from a time gone by, the plants are over one hundred years old. The vines are not grafted but propagated through cuttings, thus maintaining, over the decades, the original Barbera characteristics.

The vineyard has an excellent exposure and sandy-chalky terrain, situated in Berri near La Morra, which guaranteed the vines a natural protection from Phylloxera and imparts unique and exclusive characteristics to the vines. The intriguing simplicity of the vines and their typical, traditional charm that derives from the microclimate and favorable altitude make a one of-a-kind wine.

The low production per hectare guarantees an intensely rare and rich organoleptic concentration. The wine is refined in oak casks that slowly develop the primary aromas. Pleasant and refined, complex even as a young wine but able to withstand bottle aging, it expresses its solid uniqueness even over the years.

A bright, rich ruby color with intense purplish highlights. The aroma is enveloping, aromatic and deep with noticeable spices on first impression and raspberry, strawberry and ripe cherry notes in background. Finish with pleasant harmonies of wild flowers. On the palate it is well structured, fresh and the acidity is excellently balanced, the tannins texture is embracing and flavors remind you of sour cherries, blackberries and prunes.

Review:

Planted in almost entirely sand, this own-rooted vineyard with some vines over 120 years old is a singular expression of Barbera. Elegant aromas of wild rose and fresh bay leaf mixed with cranberry, sour cherry and underbrush are just some of the notes you will discover in this complex wine. The palate is refined and well-balanced with fresh youthful red fruits, fresh flowers and fine tannins driving the wine home. Drink Now–2035.
