The Gagliasso Estate
The Azienda Agricola Mario Gagliasso is located in the town of La Morra, south of Piedmont, in the province of Cuneo, in the Langhe area.
The winery offers one of the most beautiful views over the Langhe area.
La Morra is located at 513 meters above sea-level, 13 km from Alba, on the top of an imposing hill with the Alps and the Monviso as a background. The hill is planted with vines, for ming huge waves and creating an amphitheatre of rare beauty.
Luca Gagliasso’s family has a long history of winemaking. Luca's grandfather began 50 years ago, at which time he bottled the first Barolo from their historic vineyard, Rocche dell'Annunziata. Around 1987, Lucas's father took over the family tradition of producing wine and brought forth a few changes: he started by using barriques from France, together with large barrels and temperature controlled steel vats. He also purchased a new vineyard. Luca began working with his father during the 2000 vintage, only part time for the first 3 years. He also worked for 3 years with their wine consultant in an analysis laboratory, and worked as a consultant for other wineries.
Luca now works alongside his father, mother, and sister on their 12 hectares of vineyards. On the weekends, Luca's sister and mother work in their restaurant as cooks – only the Gagliasso wines are served. They are currently extending their facility and in the future they plan to incorporate some guest rooms to the restaurant.
The Gagliasso family produces around 60,000 bottles: 40% Barolo, 30% Barbera, 20% Dolcetto and 10% Chardonnay. They have around 250 barriques and 6 large barrels.
Dolcetto is very fruity, aged for a small period in big cask. They produce 3 Barolos and 2 Barberas, one aged 18 months in new oak and the other one only in steel vats. They age the Barolo for 18 months in new barriques, then 12 months in a large cask. Chardonnay is cold macerated, then fermented and aged in French oak for 9 months.

Thorn Clarke William Randell Shiraz is made from 100 percent Shiraz
The William Randell range of wines were created in honor of our family ancestor - the esteemed pioneer William Richard Randell (1824 - 1911). The wines are sourced solely from grapes grown on our estate vineyards. Wines in this range are only made in exceptional vintages.
Deep red with inky purple hues. This classic Barossa style shows rich blackberry, licorice, spice plum and smoky oak on the nose. The palate is dense with ripe mulberry and berry compote and generous supporting oak. The tannins are savory and long with spicy refined finish
Following harvest the fruit was crushed into a variety of small fermenters (4 to 6T in capacity). Fermentation was carried out at a warm temperature (25-28 degrees ). The ferments were manually pumped over to provide good control of tannin extraction. Each fermenter was treated as a separate parcel of wine and once dry was filled to American oak (40% new). Following malolactic fermentation the wines were racked and returned to the same oak. Parcels remained in barrel for an average of 18 months prior to blending. Only the best barrels from the multiple parcels were used to make the final blend. Once blended the wine was prepared for bottling.
Review:
"From the estate St Kitts and Milton Park Vineyards, night-harvested, each block separately vinified in 4t open fermenters, matured for 18 months in American oak (40% new). A powerful, full-bodied shiraz with blackberry fruit, tannins and oak all driving the long palate. The absorption of the oak into the fabric of the wine is particularly impressive."

Livia Fontana Barolo Riserva Bussia is made from 100 percent Nebbiolo.
Organoleptic characteristics: garnet red color. Intense and balanced, harmonious bouquet. Pleasantly dry, full and velvety on the palate. A classic Barolo with a very elegant and persistent finish.
The grapes for this wine are coming from a vineyard that is located in the historical part of Bussia called "Le Munie"
Review:
"Truffle, rose, camphor, wild berry and botanical herb are just some of the aromas you'll find on this. Full bodied and youthfully austere, the palate has firm structure and tension, delivering dried cherry, licorice, tobacco and blood orange framed in tightly knit, close-grained tannins. Fresh acidity keeps it balanced. Drink 2023–2033. - Kerin O'KEEFE" - Wine Enthusiast Magazine (December 1st 2019), 93 pts
Gagliasso Rocche dell Annunziata Barolo is made from 100% Nebbiolo.

The sumptuous texture and refined character offer perfectly integrated tannins and an elegant finish.

Reviews:
The 2015 Barolo Conteisa is a heady, exotic wine, and also one of the most complete, alluring Conteisas I have ever tasted. Conteisa is usually a wine of grace and understatement. The 2015, on the other hand, is a bold, sweeping Barolo that saturates the palate with stunning depth and volume. Even with all of its intensity, the 2015 remains vibrant. This is such a complete, harmonious wine. -- Antonio Galloni 97 Points
A big, beefy Barolo, the 2015 Barolo Conteisa comes from a site near La Morral and was first made in 1996. It takes plenty of air to come together but offers a complex bouquet of bright cherry and currant fruit interwoven with classic licorice, tar, sappy flowers, and even hints of iron. It shows a touch more minerality with time in the glass, but this is classic, full-bodied, powerful Nebbiolo with plenty of ripe tannins, a stacked mid-palate, and a blockbuster finish. Give this structured, tight 2015 upwards of a decade of cellaring, and it's going to keep for 30 years or more. - Jeb Dunnuck 97 Points
Fenocchio Barolo is 100 percent Nebbiolo.
Claudio and Albino Fenocchio own 10 hectares of vineyards. This Barolo comes from a blend of Bussia in Monforte d'Alba and Castellero in Barolo. The soil in Bussia is helvetian ( limestone and clayey blue marl) which contributes much to the fullness and excellent aging potential of these wines. The Castellaro vineyard is of tortonian soil (blue marl and sandstone mixed with sand) which gives a velvety mouth feel and exceptional aromatics. The vines are an average of 30 years old.
Color: Ruby red with garnet reflections
Bouquet: Rich bouquet with hints of blueberries, roses and liquorice.
Taste: Densely structured with a full, complex flavor. It is an elegant wine with firm tannins and good acidity that will become velvety and graceful with age. This wine is generous and bold. The finish is long and lingering.
Long slow natural fermentation without the addition of yeasts for 30 days. Closed stainless steel vat fermentation with frequent pumping over maintains the temperature at a constant 29°C. This extracts greater aromatics while causing the heavier tannins to break down and to precipitate out.
Acidity: 5.2
Alcohol by Volume: 14.5 %
Game, grilled and roasted red meats and ripe and mature cheeses. Dishes with truffles.
La Spinona Cru Bergera Barolo is made from 100 percent 100% Nebbiolo Lampia
The Beruttis bought 4 hectares in 1994 in the then relatively unknown zone of Novello which lies on the confines of Monforte and Barolo. A Sorì is an entirely south-facing vineyard. This Sori lies at 230 meters. It is named for the great grandfather that started the Barbaresco vineyards. The vines are an average of 40 years old. Bergera comes from the mid part of the vineyard and is dedicated to Pietro's grandfather who started the estate.
Brilliant deep ruby red with garnet reflections. Rich fruity bouquet with hints of cherries, violets liquorice and mint. Good structure with full, cherry-ripe flavors. The tannins are gentle and the spice subtle. It is an elegant wine of great finesse and drinkability. Excellent with wild game, roast, braised or stewed red meats, truffle dishes and aged cheeses.
Review:
"This is a dense, serious red with dried-strawberry, orange-peel and walnut character on the nose and palate. Full body and firm, chewy tannins that are polished and refined at the same time. This needs time to soften, but I like the sleek, linear path in the center palate. Drink after 2023."

Betz Family La Serenne Syrah is 100% Syrah
La Serenne is the most reflective of the site/vintage dynamic of our three single-site 2012 Syrahs. Lovers of this wine know that its source, the Boushey Vineyard, is the highest altitude of the three vineyards and is typically the latest harvested. This cool site was accentuated by the cooler season and the results reflect the seriousness of this vineyard and its care.
An extraordinary, nearly impenetrable black purple color leads to a concentrated, inky aromatic impression: smoky black cherry and wild blackberry dominate, but a litany of supporting aromas is already emerging: smoke, violet, mushroom, roasted meat, Chinese 5 spice and minerals. It has a full attack on entry and a big, rich mouthfeel that goes on and on.
2012 is our 13th harvest from this site and these rows. We continue to be impressed with the chameleon nature of this vineyard, in cool years and hot, in heat spikes and cool springs: it provides us with surprises and opportunities at every harvest. While the themes of deep black fruits and pliant structure always surface, the nuance of this vineyard and its care (thank you, Dick Boushey) make it some of the most satisfying fruit we work with every harvest.
Review:
"The pure, elegant and textured 2014 Syrah la Serenne offers that classic violet and floral characteristics of the cuvee, as well as medium to full-bodied richness, lots of black raspberry fruit, fine, sweet tannin and a great finish. It’s not as powerful or concentrated as the La Cote Rousse, yet it’s a joy to drink and will cruise for a decade or more on its balance and purity. - Jeb Dunnuck"

Ferren Pinot Noir Silver Eagle Vineyard is made from 100 percent Pinot Noir.
Winemaker Matt Courtney learned what he knows of Pinot Noir on the Sonoma Coast during his eight-year apprenticeship with Helen Turley of Marcassin Vineyards. At Ferren he employs artisan methods crafting his wines in small lots from single-vineyard sources with native fermentation and without fining or filtration. | Falling Bright
Silver Eagle Vineyard rests atop Stoetz Ridge, the land mass that divides the remote Sonoma Coast from the Russian River Valley. This vineyard experiences both the cooling ocean breezes of the nearby Pacific, as well as the warmth of the interior valley. The wine made from this unique confluence of climates is extraordinary: the Pinot Noir a rare balance of explosive wild berry, mouthwatering acidity, and rich, polished tannins; the Chardonnay a fascinating juxtaposition of briny minerality and candied citrus. [ The late Ulises Valdez - brilliant vineyard manager and owner of this vineyard - built his family home on this spectacular site.] | Ferren
