Review:

"The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet Les Champs-Gain 1er Cru has an intense, voluminous bouquet of yellow flowers, white peach and crushed stone aromas that feel very cohesive. The palate has a rounded texture on the entry. Slightly lower in acidity and quite plush for a Puligny, with a pure and quite persistent finish. Fine.- Neal Martin"

Chavy-Chouet Cremant de Bourgogne NV

Chavy-Chouet Cremant de Bourgogne is made from 7 year old Chardonnay grapes in Puligny-Montrachet.

18 months in barrels and on laths

It is a pure and elegant wine with balanced structure and a very low dosage. Intense aromas of citrus fruits, apple, apricot and white peaches, fine bubbles. Apple and Asian pear flavors, a round mouthfeel and a clean finish.

Pairs well with Cassoulet, Ceviche, Crab Soufflé.

Review:

"Pale yellow. Shows aromas of cooked apple with citrus notes. Clean and crisp on the attack, it’s full in the mouth with good freshness and effervescence on a refined, mineral driven palate. Dry but long on the finish with lingering hints of apple and oyster shells. Made from 7 year old Chardonnay grapes grown in Puligny-Montrachet and aged 18 months in barrel. This family winery is now in its 7 generation."

The vineyard measures 0.17 hectare with a plenting density of 10,000 vines per hectare.

Review:

"The 2018 Saint-Aubin Les Murgers des Dents de Chiens 1er Cru comes from a parcel at the top of the hill that tends to ripen last out of all the domaine’s holdings. It has a taut, fresh, Puligny-like bouquet of citrus fruit, hazelnut, flecks of almond and a hint of patisserie in the background. The palate is saline on the entry, very intense and broody, with crushed stone and dewy Granny Smith apples on the persistent finish. This is superb. - Neal Martin"

Chartron & Trebuchet Puligny-Montrachet 2017

Golden yellow color with green reflections. Mineral aromas (flint), floral (hawthorn) and milk (butter, warm croissant) that blend elegant with notes of honey and hazelnuts. On the palate, great concentration of aromas. A finish powerful and distinguished.

This Puligny Montrachet is blends elegantly with meat and fish (veal or chicken in white sauce, roasted sea bass, but also foie gras) or grilled shell fish with sauce (shrimp, lobster...).

Delicious as an aperitif or with mild tasting cheese (camembert, brie, blue, goat, gruyere...).

Grand Veneur Chateauneuf du Pape Rouge Les Origines 2015 (magnum)

Deep and brilliant, purple-red colour. An exciting nose with aromas of black fruit (blackcurrant, cherry) spices and vanilla. This great aromatic complexity is found on the palate : the spices and ripe fruit appear with an elegant woodiness and harmonious tannins. The finish has good aromatic length and introduces a touch of liquorice and pepper.

A terrific Châteauneuf du Pape with great concentration and finesse.

Best between 2 and 20 years. Best to decant if young (less than 5 years old).

Soil type Extreme north of Châteauneuf du Pape. This plateau is made with a high quantity of red clay mixed with rocks. This area is considerated to be one of the best to produce rich and powerful red wines. By definition, LES ORIGINES will always deliver a great complexity and ageing potential. Winemaking & ageing Harvest is sorted by hand, destemmed and crushed. Fermentation temperature is controlled at 30°C. Vatting period of 18 to 20 days. Matured in vats (grenache) and in oak casks (syrah and mourvèdre).

 Review:

"Half of the fabulous 2015 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee les Origines was aged in new barriques, the rest in concrete vats, so there is some oak in play here, but the blend of 50% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre and 20% Syrah has absorbed much of it. This full-bodied wine is tannic and rich, with fruit shading from cherries and red plums all the way through to plum and cola. Mocha and baking spices appear on the long, velvety finish. Aromas of summer fruit and ripe plums. Good intensity on the palate with a steely focus and a long, intense finish.

Review:

This wine is "a ripe take on Puligny, the apple flavors heading into pineapple, bright and juicy, still holding some chamomile notes in the lees." (04/18) Wine & Spirits 90 Points

Winery: J-L & F Chavy

The Chavy family have lived in Puligny-Montrachet for over 200 years but it was not until 1986, though that Gérard Chavy began estate bottling. Upon the retirement of Gérard in 1998, the brothers Jean-Louis and Alain jointly ran the estate until 2003 when they split it with Jean-Louis creating his own estate in 2004. He now shares most of his parcels with his brother, Alain but he did acquire a parcel of his own in the premier cru Perrières. Total holdings are 7 hectares primarily in PulignyMontrachet. Jean-Louis makes his vines average 35 years old, he keeps a restrained use of French oak on his wines to display the purity of fruit and minerality.
