Product Description

Marchesi Di Gresy Barbaresco Martinenga Camp Gros Riserva is made from 100 percent Nebbiolo.

Review:

Gorgeous scents of cherry, raspberry, rose hip and white pepper are augmented by leather, tobacco and chalky, mineral flavors in this detailed, complex red, which starts out fresh and inviting, before the dense matrix of tannins puts a lock on the finish. Nonetheless, this has length, harmony and stellar potential. Best from 2025 through 2043. 663 cases made, 50 cases imported.

Winery: Tenute Cisa Asinari

With an extension of about 45 hectares of vineyards distributed between the hills of the Langhe and Monferrato, the Tenute Cisa Asinari dei Marchesi di Grésy are a historic Piedmontese winemaking reality, whose roots go back to the end of the 18th century.

We always produce elegant wines, suitable for both daily consumption and great celebrations.

Passion, but above all respect for tradition, nature and varieties. Wines of the highest quality level that do not exceed in power, but surprise for their extreme elegance.

We want to be able to bring the great class of our vineyard into the bottle, with all the nuances of the territory.

This is why our work is largely concentrated in the care of the vineyard.

The vinification does not distort the work carried out in the vineyard, but completes it, enhancing the natural predisposition and identity of the grapes.

Bright garnet red with slight orange reflections. Intense and pleasant hints of plum and cherry blend sinuously with balsamic nuances of mint, tea leaves, dried flowers and blond pipe tobacco.

Reviews:
This is one of the most structured Barbarescos from here, showing lots of dark fruit and black olives, together with bark and black truffles. Full-bodied and layered with fantastic structure and a long finish. Needs four or five years to come around.

Capanna Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2016

Capanna Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2015

TYPE: DOCG

BLEND: 100% Sangiovese carefully selected in the oldest vineyards and only of the best harvests.

VINIFICATION:

Alcoholic fermentation with maceration of the skins (30-35 days) at a controlled temperature and spontaneous malolactic fermentation, both in truncated cone-shaped Slavonian oak vats.

AGEING:

In Slavonian oak casks of 10 to 25 hl for over 40 months; followed by ageing in bottles for at least 15 months.

NOTES:

Colour: deep ruby red, strong, lively.

Bouquet: very intense and complex, fruity and spicy, with red fruit, jam and liquorice shades; great prospects of future development.

Taste: great structure in the acid-tannin components, well supported by the soft ones; extremely persistent.

Food pairings: roast red meats, game and very aged cheeses.

Review:

Powerful, sparkling garnet red. Rich, very appealing nose with notes of ripe raspberries and fresh plums, some liquorice and fine spice notes in the background. Grippy, fine-meshed tannin on the palate, builds up in many layers, salty, good tension, very long finish in the finish.

- Falstaff 98 Points

The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva wafts up with a classic Capanna profile, rich yet elegant, with masses of crushed black cherries, sweet herbs, cloves and hints of cigar box. This is velvety yet not weighty, with a salty core of minerals and brisk acids that enliven its citrus-tinged red berries and exotic inner spice. While persistent and structured, the 2016 keeps you coming back to the glass, savory and saline in character with grippy tannins, but also a tug of residual tension that keeps the expression unexpectedly fresh. This is a tremendous Brunello Riserva in the making, and all it needs is time.

Banfi Brunello di Montalcino Poggio Alle Mura Riserva 2016

Banfi Brunello di Montalcino Poggio Alle Mura Riserva.

The wine has a deep ruby red color and an intense aroma of ripe dark fruits, such as blackberry, black cherry, and plum, along with hints of vanilla, chocolate, and toasted oak. On the palate, it is full-bodied, rich, and complex, with firm tannins, well-balanced acidity, and a long, persistent finish. It is a wine that requires aging, and can be enjoyed after 10-15 years from the vintage date, or even longer.

Review:

98 points, Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator: “Stunning, showing black cherry, blackberry, plum, leather, earth and iron aromas and flavors that work in tandem with the supple texture and dense structure. This has a good feel, between its level of ripe fruit and firm tannins, to age well. Excellent length. Best from 2026 through 2045. 1,220 cases made, 75 cases imported.” 06/22

  • Vintage Report

    • A majestic vintage where structure, elegance and freshness combine to form something special. 2015 was a hot and dry year with constant warm temperatures from May through August which permitted the production of perfectly ripe, concentrated grapes. At the beginning of September the “tramontana” a wind coming from the north, refreshed and restored the plants before the final phase of maturation, which was characterized by significant day-night temperature, typical of our high-altitude vineyards.

    • Harvest Date(s): Harvest started on September 21st - approximately 10 days later than normal
  • Vinification

    • Aging: The 2015 Riserva was vinified in vertical Slavonian oak barrels by using indigenous yeasts, selected in our vineyards. Successively, it was aged in Slavonian oak barrels for 3 years.
  • Technical Information

    • Varietal Composition: 100% Sangiovese Grosso
    • Alcohol: 14.5%
    • Optimum Drinking: Serve at 60/64˚ F. Uncork the wine 2 hours before serving.
  • Tasting Notes

    • The 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a truly majestic wine. The bouquet is packed with intense fruity notes of black berries, pomegranate and plums, intertwined with scents of Mediterranean herbs such as thyme, rosemary and sage, rising from a carpet of forest floor. On the palate, the wine seduces with exuberant charm and caressing sweetness. The youthful tannins reveal its immense structure and contribute to creating a distinctive sensation of freshness which leads us towards a long-lingering, savory finish.

Review:

The Biondi-Santi 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is initially a reticent wine and one that does not immediately subscribe to the overstated abundance and exuberance of the vintage. Give it time. I wrote this review after several tastings over several days so I could ensure a more accurate account of the wine's elegant reveal. Contemplative and exceedingly nuanced in personality, with wild berry, underbrush, ferrous earth and candied orange peel, this has everything to look forward to in terms of its future evolution in the bottle. It displays a pretty ruby color that borders on garnet and polished copper. A silky, mid-weight palate is accented by beautifully managed and silky tannins (this aspect of the mouthfeel is extraordinary), bright freshness and long-lasting fruit momentum. The alcohol is a bit more powerful in this release (at 14.5%), but the effect is supple and smooth nonetheless. I tasted bottle number 256. Tenuta Biondi Santi does not usually release bottle production numbers, but I can confirm that 2,000 bottles of the 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva are earmarked for the United States market.

Review:

"A medium-to full-bodied red with aromas and flavors of dried cranberries, cherries, citrus peel, violets and licorice. Ultra fine tannins and bright acidity accompany earthy and chewy notes on the palate. Shows structure and intensity. Needs at least three or four years to soften. Try after 2023."
