The Mordoree Estate
This is arguably the top estate in our Portfolio. Domaine de la Mordoree (woodcock), located in the town of Tavel, in the Southern Rhone Valley, is the most consistent producer of top quality wine in my entire selection. In 1986, the brothers Christophe and Fabrice Delorme decided to dedicate themselves to their passion for wine. They started their own estate with the objective to produce the best wines in each appellation while preserving the environment

The Mordoree Vineyard
The vineyard consists of 55 hectares (135 acres), on 38 different parcels, which provide with a rich, wide range of soils and climates. The soil is a mix of clay, chalk and sand with pebble stones. The improvements at the Domaine have been incredible: new pneumatic presses, new stainless steel vats, new destemmer, new vinification and aging plant, and aging in oak barrels for the top wines. All the grapes are raised by culture raisonnée which is very close to organic viticulture (intervention in the vineyard only when necessary).  The yield is reduced in the vineyard by ébourgeonnage (de budding in spring) and vendanges vertes in summer (green harvesting).  Oak aging for the top wines in special barrels like “jupille” for 10 months.  No expense is spared at this Domaine to achieve quality.

Mordoree Tavel Rose Reine des Bois is made from 60% Grenache, 15% Clairette, 10% Syrah, 10% Cinsault, 5% Bourboulenc.

Nose: Steady rose, brilliant and cristal clear.
Aromas : very complex : from flowers, white fruits and red fruits (strawberries, pomegranate, rapsberry). Slightly mentho-lated
Palate : fresh, classy, elegant, very long.
Aging capacity : 8 to 10 years.

This wine comes from a parcel planted on a pebbled soil covered with stones, whose geology is typical of the grands crus from the Rhone Valley (a base made of marine molasse from the Miocene period covered with an alpine diluvium from the Villafranchian period). 100 % destemming, cold maceration during 48 h., pneumatic pressing, fermentation at 18° C.

To pair with: roasted and or spicy chicken, duck, goose, fish soup, white meat, seafood and a lot of fishes (tuna, John Dorry, red mulet, etc...).Quite all Asian cuisine. Dishes with garlic, dishes with tomatoes.

Review:

"Brilliant orange. Red and dark berry, floral, citrus zest and succulent herb qualities on the deeply perfumed nose, as well as hints of smoky minerals and baking spices. Concentrated yet lithe, offering palate-staining black raspberry, cherry and blood orange flavors and a suave touch of candied lavender. The mineral and spice notes drive a strikingly long, gently chewy finish that echoes the floral and blood orange notes. This bottling is not just an outstanding rose, it's a flat-out exceptional wine, period – the food-matching potential here is endless. Mushroom risotto and seafood paellas come to mind, as does blue cheese and grilled, strongly seasoned rabbit, even artichokes. - Josh Raynolds"

Mordoree Lirac Blanc La Plume du Peintre 2017

What we are offering today is the holy grail of the Rhone Valley: Mordoree Lirac Blanc Plume de Peintre 2017. This wine is only produced in special vintages, 2012 being the last and now 2017 which is by far a superior Rhone vintage.

So, we have a wine rarely produced from one of Rhone’s top estates and the near perfect vintage combined with only 10 cases imported. All of which make this wine the most sought after wine not only in our portfolio, but in all of the Rhone Valley. It is no surprise this is considered the finest Lirac produced since the Delorme family of Mordoree was the force behind the rejuvenation of the Lirac region two decades ago.

Review:

Tasted a week before bottling, the 2017 Lirac Blanc la Plume du Peintre is a blend of five varieties and was barrel fermented and aged in new oak (six Saint-Martin barrels, to be precise). Honey and caramel notes adorn tropical fruit, with hints of pineapple and guava framed and supported by orange and lime zest. It's full-bodied and rich, with a long, lively finish. - Wine Advocate 92-94 Points

Mordoree Chateauneuf-du-Pape Rouge La Reine des Bois 2019

Mordoree Chateauneuf-du-Pape La Reine des Bois is made from Grenache 75 %,  Mourvèdre 10%,  Syrah 10 % , Counoise 3% &  Vaccarese 2%.

This premium cuvee - whose name means "Queen of the Woods" - is from 65-year-old vines, planted on Villafranchian-era terrasses. Yield is 30 hl/ha.

Deep ruby red; opaque. Aromas of red fruits change to wooden touches of leather, black truffles and coffee. Fat, concentrated and full flavored with a very long liquoriced and fruity finish.

Pairs with red meats, sauce dishes, game animals (woodcock, wild boar) and semi mature cheeses.

Review:

"The only 2019 presented, the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape La Reine Des Bois checks in 80% Grenache and the rest Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Vaccarèse that was brought up 20% in old barrels and 80% in tank. This inky hued 2019 boasts a beautiful nose of ripe dark fruits, smoked earth, licorice, and garrigue. With wonderful purity (which is a hallmark of the vintage), full-bodied richness, and a decadent, opulent texture, this is thrilling stuff all the way. It’s going to flirt with perfection and evolve for two decades or more."

Reviews:

"A mix of most of the permitted white varieties (mostly Clairette, Grenache Blanc and Roussanne), the 2019 Lirac La Reine Des Bois Blanc is thrilling stuff, and I’d certainly put it up with any of the top Châteauneuf du Pape whites out there. Light gold hued with a clean, classy bouquet of crushed citrus, spiced pear, white flowers, and honeyed minerality, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, beautifully integrated acidity, and a great, salty, lip-smacking finish. It’s well worth seeking out and is ideal for enjoying over the coming 2-4 years (although I suspect it will last even longer).”

Alain de la Treille Le Rose 2019
Alain de la Treille Le Rose is made from 40% Gamay, 40% Cabernet Franc and 20% Pinot Noir

This dry Rosé is very aromatic on the fruitiness with a great style and elegance.

Average age of the vines is 25 years old.

We produce a part of this cuvee with 12 hours skin maceration and another part from directly pressed grapes.

Wine was slightly filtered before bottling to insure the wine remains stable.

This wine is the perfect friend for barbecue, salads and of course aperitif. This is ideal for warm days in the garden, as well as elegant poultry dishes.

Review:

"An interesting blend of 40% Cabernet Franc, 40% Gamay, and 20% Pinot Noir, the 2019 Le Rosé offers a lighter pink/ruby hue as well as a pretty bouquet of watermelon, cherries, and white flowers. Quite elegant and complex, it has medium-bodied richness on the palate, nicely integrated acidity, and a clean, dry finish. It’s more than a simple rosé and grows on you with time in the glass. It’s going to shine on the dinner table (or with tapas) over the coming summer months." - Jeb Dunnuck (March 2020), 90 pts
