TASTING NOTES: This fresh, subtle Honjozo has a lovely nose of cantaloupe, leek, fresh clay and pear. With just a hint of sweetness, the palate is light bodied with alluring flavors of burnt caramel, chalk and marsh-mallow and a classic Honjozo clean, dry finish.
The fanciful name "Otoko no Yujyo", represents a feeling for which the sake was made, to honor brotherly love, between comrades.

Winery: Matsui Shuzo

Matsui Shuzo is nestled in a pine forest for which it is named, this small family owned brewery uses only local rice for its brewing. The toji, Motohiro Matsui, is also the owner, taking over from his father, running the company and responsible for all the brewing. He studied at Tokyo University and is a member of the Shimotsuke Brewer's Association. The water in Shioyamachi is soft, running through the mountains of pine forest surrounding the brewery for use in all production of sake. Unique to the brewing process is the blending of two yeast strains which is used to obtain a special flavor element within the sake.

Segries Secret de la Grange Lirac 2015 (Magnum)

Segries Secret Grange Lirac Rouge  is made from 90% Grenache and 10% Syrah.

This is a new wine for Chateau de Segries. 

The wine is dark and inky. 
The aromas are intense and complex. It has fruit flavors of course, Strawberry and Blackberry, but it also have some interesting spice components, garrigue, pepper and licorice.

The finish is long and very pleasant as the tannins are round and well integrated.

La Grange is the name of the parcel where the grapes are grown. The soil is Clay and Limestone.
The average age of the vines is 80 years old.

Classic vinification in temperature controlled tanks. The skin contact maceration lasted 30 days and was completed in cement tanks.

A tiny production new cuvee (there are just 100 cases), the 2015 Lirac Secret de la Grange is similar to the Cuvee Reservee, yet has another level of polish, purity and finesse. Notes of blueberries, blackberries, crushed rocks, roasted meats, toasted spices and licorice all soar from this gorgeously concentrated, rich, yet seamless Lirac that has no hard edges, notable freshness and a great finish. "The 2015 Lirac Secret de la Grange is just as good as the 2016. It’s the same blend (90-10 Grenache-Syrah), made the same way, without any wood. The fruit is a bit more evolved toward cherries and spice rather than the bright raspberries of youth, but it’s still full-bodied, creamy in texture and rich, with a long finish. Drink now to 2025. As a point of reference, the 2013 and 2014, both significantly more difficult vintages, lag only a couple of points behind and are drinking well at the moment. - Joe Czerwinski"

Sake Sawahime Tokubetsu Honjozo

This inviting Honjozo is full of floral, quince, dried mango, anise and hazelnut aromatics. On the palate this sake has medium body and a smooth mouth feel.  Forward flavors of persimmon and black pepper with lively acidity gives this sake a beautiful balance.
