Sei Solo Ribera del Duero Tempranillo is made from 100 percent Tempranillo. 

Named after Bach's six solos for violin, Sei Solo represents Javier Zaccagnini's vision of elegant, high-toned Ribera del Duero from the powerful, mineral soils of La Horra and the top vineyards of Barroso and Acos that are planted with old vines of 60 to 90 years old.

Displaying wonderful clarity of fruit and excellent transparency to the multi-layered flavors, there is no new oak influence on this at all, resulting in a wine that has nothing to hide behind. Deft tannins support a taut, mineral, dark fruited wine that, while tight knit and brooding is tremendously refined and vital and not at all tiring to drink. A Ribera built on elegance, refinement and nuance that promises great things for the future. A star is born.

Fermented in stainless steel tanks of small capacity, adapted to the size of every vineyard, allowing to do individual fermentation for every different plot.
Short and careful pumping over, never reaching high temperatures to respect the fruit and avoid over extraction of the tannins, gaining the full potential of elegance and finesse of the old vines. After alcoholic fermentation the wines are racked to two-year-old French barrels to undergo malolactic at low temperature ( less than 14 degrees C) . This process takes several months. When malolactic is finished, the wines are racked to 600 liter big barrels of French oak, which are not new to avoid a loss of balance and style of the wines. Aging in barrels for 20 months.

 Review:

Made with Tempranillo from 60- to 100-year-old vines, this wine has a bouquet of purple plum, black currant and a hint of cedar. Plush tannins and striking acidity provide a backdrop to black cherry, Mission fig, caramel, milk chocolate and juniper-berry flavors. I did not want this wine to end; it is a gorgeous pour on its own, but to get the most out of it enjoy it alongside a Porterhouse or Tomahawk steak. Drink through 2034. — Mike DeSimone

"A very fine and serious Ribera del Duero that exhibits huge depth and uncoiled complexity. The aromas of spicy toast, chalky minerals, ripe but fresh blackberries, grilled herbs and cocoa powder fade and become more transparent. Well-judged wood influence. Really concentrated, mildly plush and hedonistic. Masses of fine, powdery tannins are fully integrated and cohesively knit. This will age beautifully. 100% tempranillo. Gorgeous. High alcohol, yes, but still poised. Drink from 2027, but this will hold well for years."

Sourced from seven different parcels in La Horra, this is an elegant, refined, beautifully judged Tinto Fino from a quality-obsessed winemaker. Ti Cuntu… means “I will tell you a story…” in Sicilian dialect and it refers to the ability of the wines made from these native grapes to tell the story of their terroir and of their history. The label shows the dry stone walls and the wild myrtle which characterize their territory.

Frappato is a rare native grape of Vittoria and is almost exclusively grown in Eastern Sicily. The vineyards lie on the sides of Mont Iblei at 300 meters above sea level on a south-west exposure. The relatively infertile terrain encourages the concentrated structure with a light color and beautiful aromatics. Irrigation is generally avoided. There are 4,000 plants per hectare. Agriculture is sustainable and no herbicides or pesticides are used and wild herbs fill the vineyard rows.

Shenandoah University’s 150th anniversary white showcases albariño, a Spanish grape which Chrysalis Vineyards, the producer of this wine, helped bring to Virginia. Albariño is proving popular in Virginia, with its botanical aroma, bright acidity, and notes of peach and green apple. Drink on its own or with light meals such as seafood. The wine’s name recognizes the rolling hills of the university’s Shenandoah Valley home.

Twin Stars celebrates Shenandoah University’s 150 years in the Shenandoah Valley with a wine that speaks to its Virginia heritage through the Norton grape, first cultivated in Virginia. With aromas of caramel and vanilla and notes of cherry and coffee, this medium-bodied red pairs well with rich dishes and red meat. Norton is a specialty of its producer, Chrysalis Vineyards in Middleburg, Virginia. Its name refers to the twin stars of Shenandoah – its original location in Dayton, Virginia, and its current main campus home in Winchester, Virginia – and the origin of the word Shenandoah, which may come from an indigenous legend of the stars casting their jewels upon a beautiful river and its valley. 

Tasting Notes

Strong typical Pinot Noir characters are the distinguishing features of this wine, together with the balance of flavour. Made from just one small portion of Pinot grapes that are carefully spur pruned in winter, then meticulously looked after over the summer to eventually be handed from the vineyard team to the winemaking team to carry on the intense care and attention to detail that is needed to make the best Pinot Noir.

Winemakers Notes

The favourite wine of our winemakers to make as it really extends all of their skills from working with the small open-top fermentation tanks, which allow for constant hand plunging of the grape skins ( a small wooden plunger constantly pushes the skins below the surface of the juice) to selecting a variety of different French oak barrels that the wine will mature in for more than twelve months. The real skill is in the blending, as not all the barrels will make the grade for our top Pinot Noir. Days are spent tasting and re-tasting barrels and blends looking for the elusive blend that conveys the smooth velvet texture of Pinot Noir.

Winemakers Notes

Most of the blend is tipped into open-top fermentation tanks for preferment soak prior to the fermentation starting naturally with indigenous yeast, another portion is tank fermented with pump over, then a very small portion is kept as whole berries and sealed for carbonic maceration fermentation. Once the fermentations have finished, a partial micro-oxygenation is started which helps the wine to remain softer and rounder earlier.

Grown on our Waipara Valley vineyards the grapes were harvested over a period of two weeks at varying degrees of ripeness allowing for a range of fruit flavours and complexity. This shows in the final wine with great depth of flavour throughout the palate with well-balanced acidity leaving you wanting more.

Siegel Gran Reserva Viognier is made from 100 percent Viognier.

Gran Reserva Viognier was aged for 6 months in French oak barrels with lees stirring to provide complexity and structure. The wine shows a pale yellow color with green tones. The nose offers intense notes of white peach, grapefruit and floral aromas. On the palate the wine is balanced, persistent and presents excellent balanced acidity.

Siegel Hand-picked Selection Carmenere is made from 100 percent Carmenere.

The handpicked Reserva wines are born out of a strong desire to offer the very best expressions of terroir from El Crucero vineyard, located at 360 meters above sea level. These carefully handpicked grapes deliver superb varietal characteristics and exceptionally well-balanced fruit concentration. The manual harvest behind the handpicked Reserva Wines, a stage prior to a second triage, highlights Siegel's commitment to delivering uniquely hancrafted wines from Curico Valley.

The wine shows an intense violet - red color, aromas of black fruits, pepper and mild notes of violets. The tannins are soft, and notes of black fruits linger through the palate with long persistence.

Pair with pastas, spices foods.

Siegel Hand-picked Selection Chardonnay is made from 100 percent Chardonnay.

The handpicked selection Reserva wines are born out of a strong desire to offer the very best expressions of terroir from El Crucero vineyard, located at 360 meters above sea level. These carefully handpicked grapes deliver superb varietal characteristics and exceptionally well-balanced fruit concentration. The manual harvest behind the handpicked Reserva Wines, a stage prior to a second triage, highlights Siegel's commitment to delivering uniquely hancrafted wines from Chile.

This handpicked Chardonnay shows a pale yellow color. On the nose, it presents notes of tropical fruits like mango. On the palate, it is well-balanced, with a pleasant acidity and a persistent finish.

Pairs best with white meats and fish, especially salmon.

Siegel Los Lingues Single Block 21 Mediterranea  is made from 45% Garnacha, 40% Carignan and 15% Syrah.

This Mediterranean red blend from Siegel shows a beautiful red color with violet notes, a great aromatic expression with some notes of raspberries and blackberries with slight toasted notes. On the palate it is a round wine with good acidity and long finish.

Siegel Single Vineyard Los Lingues Carmenere is made from 100 percent Carmenere. 

An intense violet color. Smells of black fruits that are complemented with notes of figs and spices. Soft, round tannins. Excellent concentration, juicy flavor and very voluminous.

This particular wine received the BEST CARMENERE IN CHILE award during the Cata d'Or Wine Competition.

After carefully determining the moment for the harvest, the grapes are harvested by hand and later de-stemmed and marinated in cold temperatures for 5-6 days. Alcoholic fermentation is between 26ºC and 29ºC during which daily reassembly is implemented according to taste. Post-fermentation infusion lasts for two or three weeks. Once the blend is made, the wine is gently clarified and stabilized in cool temperatures if necessary.

Siegel Single Vineyard Los Lingues Petit Verdot is made from 100 percent Petit Verdot.

The grapes were grown on the Los Linques "Reserve" hillside, blocks 23, 24 & 25. The wine offers elegant notes of tobacco, mocha and roasted coffee beans. It presents soft tannins, wine of great balance with a persistent and long finish.

Pairs with red meat, particularly lamb.

Siegel Special Reserve Carmenere is made from 100 percent Carmenere.

Viña Siegel is a family operated winery with a well-established tradition and long history. For generations we have been dedicated to the art of crafting wines with strong identities. Our Special Reserve wines represent the union of tradition and innovation in two generations. The grapes are sourced through careful selection of our best vineyards. Their ripe and round tannins clearly express the terroir of Colchagua. Siegel Special Reserve Carmenere has been aged for 12 months in French oak barrels. It has an intense violet-red color, with aromas of black fruits, spices, dark chocolate and dried figs. The palate is balanced and juicy with velvety tannins and a long finish.

Pre-fermentative cold maceration for 5 days, with alcoholic fermentation occurring at 27-29°C for a deeper colour and better structure. Smooth pump overs happen once a day at the winemaker’s discretion. Post-fermentative maceration for 2 weeks. Then the wine is separated from its lees and malolactic fermentation ensues. Once the wine has fermented it is smoothly clarified and cold stabilisation occurs when necessary.

It pairs well with spicy foods, pasta with mushrooms and roasts

Smith Woodhouse Vintage Port 1991 has been pulled from a Gentleman's cellar, all wines from this cellar have been purchased by the owner either from the importer or direct from winery. They stayed in his cellar until being moved to the Timeless Wines warehouse.
