Trouillet Lebeau Pouilly-Loche Les Mures 2020

Trouillet Lebeau Pouilly-Loche Les Mures is made from 100% Chardonnay.

Pouilly Loché is the smallest appellation in the Mâconnais (33 hectares). The climate called "Les Mures" is located on a hillside, facing east, overlooking the Saône Valley at an altitude of 250 meters, in the village of Loché, 5 kilometers south-east of Mâcon. Loché has been a site devoted to vines since the Roman times. Excavations during the construction of the TGV station, which puts this vineyard 1 hour 40 minutes from Paris and Geneva, revealed the foundations of a large villa. Thereafter, the vine flourished under the influence of the monks of Cluny, who are reminded of the magnificent 12th century octagonal bell tower behind which the rocks of Solutré and Vergisson stand out.

The wine offers delicate and precise aromas of ripe yellow fruits.  Dense, fleshy and fruity in the mouth with a fresh menthol finish.

Trouillet Lebeau Pouilly-Fuisse Aux Chailloux 2019

Trouillet Lebeau Pouilly-Fuisse Aux Chailloux is made from 100% Chardonnay.

This Pouilly-Fuisse is produced from 60 year old Chardonnay grapes (among the oldest of the domaine) that are grown in the foothills of the Solutre Rock on the parcel called "Chailloux" - the name means in old French clay and rounded “chailles” or stones. They play a significant role in the composition of the soil as they bring minerality to the wine.

The wine offers beautiful aromas of red juice orange and spices. Ample in the mouth, rich and full, with a fresh finish on citrus fruits.

Excellent with poultry and fresh water fish. Delicious also with goat cheeses.

Silver Oak Timeless Soda Canyon Ranch Red 2018

When the founding fathers of the Napa Valley carved out new sub-AVAs (American Viticultural Areas) in the 1980s, Soda Canyon Ranch was not yet on anyone’s map. The vineyard is neighbored to the northwest and west by the winegrowing districts of Stags Leap District and Oak Knoll District, respectively, which were among the early pioneers of California Cabernet Sauvignon to attain global fame. To the northeast and southeast—and further off the beaten path—were Atlas Peak and Coombsville, thought to be the next frontiers for the emerging wine-producing region.

With richness and depth of flavor, the 2018 Timeless Napa Valley is the embodiment of patience and attention to detail. Decades of experience at Soda Canyon Ranch allow winemaker Nate Weis and team to highlight the individual merits of each block. Combining the strongest lots from each resulted in a refined and harmonious bottling.

In 2018, the diurnal shift at Soda Canyon Ranch produced a darker, lusher fruit profile of Cabernet Sauvignon. Simultaneously, the overnight recovery periods resulted in expressive and refined Merlot, giving the wine a pleasant profile of bright, red fruit. With an extended harvest window, the signature, plush density and structure of Petit Verdot is also prevalent in the final blend. Cabernet Franc thrived in 2018 with its predilection for the cooler soils and the climate of blocks 5, 6, 16, 20 and 21—areas we call the Transition Zone and Hardpan Alley. The variety’s floral and tobacco-like aromatics are accentuated, and its more aggressive nature for back-end tannins tamed.

Once blended, the 2018 vintage rested in French oak barrels for 16 months, developing flavors of vanilla and baking spice. Velvety tannins dance across the palate of bright and lingering cassis. With a smooth finish, this is a comforting wine of elegance and depth—a sophisticated expression of the sedate summer.

Review:

This is a little old-school and shows lots of dark berry, chocolate and dried fruit. It’s full, dense and layered with fleshly sensibility. Velvety texture.

Booker Fracture Paso Robles Syrah 2018

Booker Fracture is made from 100 percent Syrah.

Often described as a Booker flagship, Fracture is one of the world’s great Syrahs. Only the softest Syrah in barrel makes the cut for this dense and powerful wine. The namesake pays homage to the calcareous soil in our vineyard, the limestone causes it to ‘fracture’. Deep and mysterious at first sight, the 2018 vintage is rich and velvety on your palate. There is an interesting balance of earth and fruit, with traces of sweet beets, dark plums and chocolate. Though this silky wine will pair with anything, our thoughts are going to salty popcorn by the fire or Dutch Gouda cheese with some black truffle mustard.

Review:

The inky colored 2018 Fracture is another wine that’s going to push at the upper limits of the grading scale. Awesome crème de cassis, charred meats, graphite, plenty of minerality, and subtle oak nuances all flow to a powerful, full-bodied, beautifully balanced Syrah. Similar in style to the 2017 with its powerful yet elegant vibe as well as good acidity, it’s a magical Paso Robles Syrah in the making.

Domaine Tollot-Beaut Les Vercots Aloxe-Corton Premier Cru Rouge 2018

Domaine Tollot-Beaut Les Vercots Aloxe-Corton Premier Cru 2018 is made from 100 percent Pinot Noir.

Tollot-Beaut's Les Vercots Premier Cru is rustic and robust with aromas and flavors of red cherries, spice, and earth with substantial weight and ripe tannins.

Red Burgundy might be the world's most flexible food wine. The wine's high acidity, medium body, medium alcohol, and low tannins make it very food-friendly. Red Burgundy, with its earthy and sometimes gamey character, is a classic partner to roasted game birds, grilled duck breast, and dishes that feature mushrooms, black truffles, or are rich in umami.

Review:

Marked by alluring black cherry and violet aromas and flavors, this red also has intensity and structure. Iron, earth and spice elements add depth. Has a nice silkiness to offset the light burr of tannins on the finish. Best from 2023 through 2035.

Grand Veneur Chateauneuf du Pape Rouge Les Origines 2018 (magnum)

Grand Veneur Chateauneuf-du-Pape Rouge Les Origines (MAGNUM) is made from 50% Grenache, 30% Mourvedre and 20% Syrah

Matured in vats (grenache) and in oak casks (syrah and mourvèdre).

Deep and brilliant, purple-red colour. An exciting nose with aromas of black fruit (blackcurrant, cherry) spices and vanilla. This great aromatic complexity is found on the palate : the spices and ripe fruit appear with an elegant woodiness and harmonious tannins. The finish has good aromatic length and introduces a touch of liquorice and pepper.

A terrific Châteauneuf du Pape with great concentration and finesse.

Best between 2 and 20 years. Best to decant if young (less than 5 years old).

Soil type Extreme north of Châteauneuf du Pape. This plateau is made with a high quantity of red clay mixed with rocks. This area is considerated to be one of the best to produce rich and powerful red wines. By definition, LES ORIGINES will always deliver a great complexity and ageing potential. Winemaking & ageing Harvest is sorted by hand, destemmed and crushed. Fermentation temperature is controlled at 30°C. Vatting period of 18 to 20 days. Matured in vats (grenache) and in oak casks (syrah and mourvèdre).

 Review:

"The 2018 Chateauneuf du Pape les Origines offers up scents of lavender and thyme on the nose, accenting red berries and cherries. This full-bodied effort reveals an intriguing tautness on the palate, with tart, redcurrant and pie-cherry notes juxtaposed against hints of dark chocolate. It seems to have tightened up a bit since I tasted it last year. The tannins are more prominent here than in many 2018s, suggesting that a couple of years in the cellar wouldn't hurt, as there's ample concentration and plenty of fruit-driven length on the finish. - Joe Czerwinski"

Product Description

Trouillet Lebeau Pouilly-Vinzelles Les Quarts is made from 100 percent Chardonnay.

The wine comes from a very small parcel located in the climate of "Les Quarts" benefiting from an eastern exposure that is perfectly suited to Chardonnay, allowing early harvests and giving rich and powerful wines. Neighboring the archaeological complex of Solutré, the Vinzelles appellation is based on the same Jurassic (Bathonian and Bajocian) rocks that crown the Mâconnais mountains.

Rich aromas of peach, apricot and grapefruit, evolving with age towards fresh almond, hazelnut, honey, quince or toasted bread. This Pouilly-Vinzelles "Les Quarts" balances its natural minerality with fatness and opulence.

Winery: Les Vins Trouillet Lebeau

Ideally situated at the foot of the famous rock of Solutré, in the hamlet of Pouilly, Les Vins Trouillet Lebeau – currently managed by Marie-Agnès (3rd generation) and her son William (4th generation) – extends over about twenty hectares today, which is a sign of excellent dynamism as Jules Guérin, Marie-Agnès’s grandfather, started with 4 hectares of share-cropped land (in the hamlet of Pouilly) which his son Jean worked for 45 year

Owner: William Trouillet

Winery Philosophy: In the vineyards: Our vines are grown in an environmentally-friendly manner using a sustainable approach of integrated control in line with the requirements of the INAO (French agricultural regulatory organization).
Tillage is largely carried out to encourage underground life and root development, so as to obtain the richness and minerality required for quality reasons which enable great wines to be produced.

In the cellar: All of our grapes are pressed gently using a latest-generation pneumatic press and decanted very rigorously for 24 hours in order to obtain clear, pure grape juice. All vintages are vinified in oak vats, large barrels or casks from Burgundy, fully respecting the required temperatures in order to maintain all of the freshness and finesse of Chardonnay.

The Estate was founded by Jean Guérin.
Marie Agnès was the third generation winemaker in the Family.
William represents the 4th generation.

Winemaker: William Trouillet

Our vines, which are on average 40 to 50 years old, are planted on clay-limestone soil in 6 villages surrounding the domaine: Soluté-Pouilly, Fuissé, Loché, Vinzelles, Leynes, and Davayé. They benefit from exceptional terroir of varying aspect, which produces a wide range of dry and fruity wines with great complexity, to please the most demanding palates.

Review:

The 2019 Pouilly-Fuissé La Maréchaude has a discrete bouquet, timid at first and then opens with aeration. Scents of grass clippings and struck flint shine as hints of orange zest come forward in the background. The palate is beautifully defined with a fine bead of acidity, great tension and poised with real intensity on the finish. I adore the energy in this nascent Pouilly-Fuissé and though difficult to resist in its youth, this should age with style. Superb. - Neal Martin"
