Winery: Larriaut

The estate has been operated by the Larriaut family since 1890, and Château Camus itself since 1923. Today, it is run  by Joris Larriaut who represents the 4th generation.

The family used to practice polyculture, a mixed farming of vines, pear trees, and tobacco plants, but in the 1960s, Jean-Pierre Larriaut decided to convert his gravelly and silico-gravel soils into a single landscape: vineyards. For the reds, he planted Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, and for the whites, Sauvignon and Semillon. Today, the estate spreads over 11 hectares (27 acres).

The gravel and pebble-based soils give birth to a racy red wine with great aromatic power (blackcurrant, cherry, cinnamon) and great aging potential and a dry white wine with lively and crisp aromas of citrus fruit and white flowers.

Review:

The 2019 Crabitey is gorgeous. Blackberry, gravel, sage, leather, graphite and lavender build as the 2019 shows off its drive and vibrancy. The aromas and flavors are beautifully delineated. Deceptive in its mid-weight feel, the 2019 impresses with its poise and overall balance. - Antonio Galloni"

"This rich wine is powered by tannins and generous blackberry fruits. It is currently dry, with a firm core. But the wine has weight and will develop well. Drink from 2023. - ROGER VOSS"

Domaine Maurice Protheau & Fils Chateau d'Etroyes Mercurey Blanc Les Ormeaux 2018

Domaine Maurice Protheau & Fils Chateau d'Etroyes Mercurey Blanc Les Ormeaux is made from 100 percent Chardonnay.

Graceful light yellow color fringed with a bright green disk. Nose with white flowers aromas and a predominance of hawthorn. Round and toasted mouth with a melted woody note. Full, fresh and mineral on the middle palate. It develops roundness and an impressive richness that envelops aromas of pineapple, lychee, and grapefruit notes.

After a rigorous control of maturity during the summer, harvesting is carried out as soon as the sugar content of the grapes is optimal to allow the most natural winemaking. The harvested grapes are then transported to the winery Le Clos l'Evêque, where they are pressed out immediately on the pneumatic press. After a low temperature static settling for a day, the must is intoned in 500 liter oak barrels in the cellar where they will ferment slowly at low temperatures. Then patiently during the winter the wines will evolve: malolactic fermentation and stirring of the lees will follow one another to give at the end of spring, wines of great finesse.

Review:

"A touch of chalk surrounds the lemony notes of wheat bran on the nose of this wine. Chalkiness continues on the smooth, textured and slightly creamy palate, which has lemony overtones. Freshness makes for a bright yet smooth finish. - Anne KREBIEHL MW"

Grand Veneur Chateauneuf de Pape Blanc Le Miocene 2019

Grand Veneur Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc Le Miocene is made from 60% Clairette, 40% Roussanne

Pale yellow colour with hints of green, aromas of white flowers (may blossom, honeysuckle).
The palate is pleasantly balanced between liveliness and roundness, which brings out characteristics of dried apricot, honey and elderberry. A Châteauneuf du Pape white displaying a great finesse.

Best between 1 and 8 years.

Soil type Coming from the single vineyard named “La Fontaine”, the plot is facing north. It is made of clay-sand and limestone. Thanks to the northern orientation, it is always very well aired. This sector allow the Roussane and Clairette to mature in great conditions without losing freshness, which we believe is key point. Winemaking & ageing Whole-bunch pressing. Vinification in stainless-steel tanks. Fermentation temperature controlled at 15°C.

Review:

"Based on a 60/40 split of Clairette and Roussanne brought up all in tank, the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Le Miocène Blanc offers a pretty, already complex nose of mulled citrus and pear fruits, leafy herbs, and honeyed toast. With notable richness, medium body, and bright acidity, as well as a clean, dry finish, it’s classic white from this great region to enjoy over the coming 3-5 years."

Grand Veneur Chateauneuf Du Pape Blanc La Fontaine 2019

Grand Veneur Chateauneuf Du Pape Blanc La Fontaine is made from 100% Roussane.

Yellow-gold color. The nose is rich in aromas of citrus fruit, tropical fruit, quince and honey, with a touch of vanilla. On the palate, the same aromas appear together with a fatness combining exotic fruit and vanilla : the wine is rich, generous and elegant, with extraordinary length. "La Fontaine" is often considered to be one of the best Châteauneuf du Pape white, and it is by definition a superb gastronomy wine.

Best between 1 and 8 years.

Review:

"A tiny production, the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape La Fontaine Blanc is beautifully done and certainly ranks with the top wines of the vintage. Based on 100% Roussanne, it has a smoking bouquet of buttered citrus, caramelized white currants, toasted bread, and a touch of nuttiness to go with a medium to full-bodied, nicely concentrated style on the palate. With bright acidity, good mid-palate depth, and a great finish, this serious Roussanne can be enjoyed now or cellared for 10-15 years, if not longer."
