Remi Niero Estate
It is on terraced hillsides that the Domaine Niero harvests the best grapevines of Viognier and Syrah to offer unique vintages of Condrieu and Côte-Rôtie.
Culture ways:
Caring about environment, your wine grower has resorted to thoughtful working methods in the vineyard so as to develop a responsible wine growing . Moreover, aware of the need to adapt his culture policies, he has recently resorted to organic farming.
Date Founded: 1973
Now at the head of the vineyard , Rémi Niero has taken over from his father Robert, who, from Rémi’s early age, has passed on to him his whole know-how and passion for wine growing. The latter had taken over a small vineyard from his father-in-law Jean Pinchon in 1985, planting and working hard in those “chaillets” to make one of the most beautiful landscapes of our shared patrimony look more beautiful. Despite the requirement of this soil, his efforts have been rewarded by the authentic and natural balance of the wines.
To honor his masters Robert and Jean, Rémi offers his new vintage « Héritage» ,which is particularly faithful to the know-how and identity of the domain. Taken from the selection of the most beautiful casks of Condrieu, it will charm your taste buds and those of your guests.
Remi Niero Côte-Rôtie vineyard:
History:
It is one of the oldest vineyards in France. The Romans developed it and later, during the Middle-Age, a legend says that Lord Maugiron shared his good between his two daughters, one brown-haired and the other blond-haired,hence the names that the wines have kept , Côte Brune and Côte Blonde. Côte-Rôtie is the domain of the Syrah vine, which is broad and manly. A small place has been given to Viognier (20 % maximum allowed in the blend) which can bring a more feminine note.
Soils and climate:
The vine is harvested on grape-pickers’ backs on very steep granitic hillsides called “chaillets”, hold back by stone walls. The climate is the same than in the Condrieu vineyard. Rémi and Robert Niero’s Côte-Rôtie comes from two parcels over two hectares : La Viallière and Le Côteau de Bassenon (the southernmost parcel of the label).
Remi Niero Condrieu Heritage is made from 100% Viognier

Review:
"Grilled peach, roasted pineapple, spice, and toasted bread notes all emerge from the 2020 Condrieu Heritage, a brilliantly balanced, medium to full-bodied Condrieu that does everything right. With both richness and freshness, it blossoms with time in the glass and offers terrific purity as well as a touch more minerality. It's terrific."

Niero Cote Rotie Eminence is a blend of 95% Syrah which gives strength and structure and 5% Viognier for roundness and aromatic complexity.
The nose majestically unveils an explosion of delicate aromas of red and black small fruits. The charm goes on through a silky texture, full of integrity and freshness, with fat tannins and a sweet final taste. Wonderful.
The cuvee Eminence is produced from two terroirs - one consists of micaschist soils on the steep slopes of "La Vialliere", and the second one of granite soils on the steep terraces of "Bassenon", resulting in a wine of aromatic complexity, with cassis, blackberry, violet and white pepper. On the palate it is harmonious and fleshy with silky texture, showing a beautiful maturity without any heaviness. With a deep and persistent finish, this wine reveals the typicity of this charming terroir.
Pair with lamb stew with olives, farm rabbit with black truffle, beef rib, goose with chestnuts, roast veal kidneys, squab with cloves of garlic.
Cazaux Vacqueyras Blanc Les Clefs d'Or is made from 50% Clairette, 30% Roussanne and 20% Grenache Blanc.
A wine with lively acidity, expressive aromas of fennel and white flowers. It is long and full in the mouth with minty and anisy aromas mixed with white peach flavors. Refreshing and mineral character.
Clairette grapes are green harvested to concentrate and harmonize aroma. Each grape varietal is hand picked separately. Pressing with skin contact at low temperature. Aged 12 months in stainless steel tank. (No oak)
Enjoy this wine with all sorts of fish starters, squid salad with olive oil and basil. A must try with fresh oysters.
Review:
"A blend of 50% Clairette, 30% Roussanne, and the rest Grenache Blanc, the 2021 Vacqueyras Les Clefs D'Or Blanc has a medium-bodied, perfectly balanced, elegant style as well as outstanding notes of citrus, lime, and hints of tart pineapple. This clean, crisp, vibrant white will shine on the dinner table, and I suspect it will have 4-5 years or more of longevity."

The 2021 Domaine Joseph Voillot Volnay Les Champans Premier Cru is from the domain’s largest premier cru holding, 4.2 acres whose vines date from 1934, 1971, and 1985. Champans is down-slope in the premier cru band, and its wine typically has more fruit and power than other Voillot Volnays.
Review:
‘The 2021 Volnay Les Champans Ter Cru has much more brightness and delineation than the Fremiets this year, with red cherries, wild strawberries and ust a touch of iodine and sous-bois. This is nicely focused. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, fine structure, pliant tannins and a harmonious finish. Not the most complex Champans encountered from this address, yet it has class.

The 2021 les Champans is also a simply stunning example of this fine premier cru vineyard. The beautifully elegant nose wafts from the glass in a blend of red and black plums, cherries, spit-roasted quail, a complex base of soil, woodsmoke, coffee bean and a deft touch of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and shows off superb depth at the core, great soil signature, ripe, fine-grained tannins and a long, nascently complex and very promising finish. This is a touch more reserved on the palate than the Fremiets and will take a bit longer to blossom, but it is going to be stellar. 2034-2085.

The Domaine Joseph Voillot Volnay Les Fremiets Premier Cru is from a parcel that is up-slope, and the wine is very calcaire, or limestony; you literally taste the stone in this elegant, intensely perfumed wine. Pair with veal filet mignon, squab, beef steak and roast duckling.
Review:
I really like this terroir and the 2021 is an absolutely classic example of this fine premier cru, offering up a refined and pure bouquet of black plums, dark berries, coffee bean, a complex base of dark soil tones, a nice touch of new oak and plenty of upper register smokiness. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and very elegant in profile, with a superb core, lovely soil signature, ripe, suave tannins and a long, vibrant and complex finish. Fine, fine juice. 2033-2080.

Review:
"Pale yellow-gold. Fresh peach, orange pith, pear and a suggestion of fennel on the powerfully scented nose, along with a hint of jasmine. Juicy and energetic in the mouth, offering vibrant Meyer lemon, pear nectar and honeysuckle flavors that are accented by a dusty mineral nuance. Silky and sharply focused on the finish, which shows strong, nervy lift, firm mineral cut and impressive persistence. - Josh Raynolds"

Brilliant golden yellow robe. The Bourgogne Chardonnay from Remy Lefevre is a marvel of density and aromatic expression. Very expressive on the nose, hints of stone and yellow fruits such as peach, pineapple. The opulence of the mouthfeel is nicely balanced between minerality and very delicate oaky notes.
