The Tres Ojos Estate
Tres Ojos is made at the Bodega San Gregorio, a cave co-op founded in 1965 that counts 160 members. The president is Gregorio Abad Gil and the vice president is Jose Maria Hernandez.
They sell wine to nine different countries.
 The winery is located in the Ribota River Valley, some 15 kilometers north of the city of Calatayud. Tres Ojos hails from the D.O. Calatayud, located in Aragon, a province unparalleled in Spain by its variety of landscapes (lush river valleys, mountainsides and semi-desert areas.)  The name Calatayud derives from a Moorish governor named Ayud who built a castle (qalat) at the confluence of the Jalon and Jiloca rivers (qalat Ayud.)  There has been thriving population here as far back as Roman times when the old city of Bilbilis was used as an important staging-post for the Roman legions on their way north to Gaul.

The Tres Ojos Vineyards
The coop cultivates 820 hectares (2,025.40 acres) of primarily Garnacha (62%), Tempranillo (22%), 7% white Macabeo and 9% Cabernet, Syrah & Merlot (a mix).  Most of the vines are at least 40 years old and some are 50+. The vines, planted “en vaso”(head-trained) are not irrigated, offering very low production levels. Local soils are rich in limestone, marl and slate, providing plenty of opportunities to make good wine on a regular basis of which Tres Ojos is a perfect example.

Trespass Zinfandel 2016

Trespass Zinfandel is made from 100 percent Zinfandel. 

As winemaker Kirk Venge says, old vine Zinfandel has a very welcome place in his heart. “These vines are soldiers that have endured so many seasons, it’s nearly countless. We depend on these vineyards for their pure varietal character, depth and consistency. The Luvisi Vineyard, where the grapes for this wine originate, is perhaps the oldest vineyard I have the pleasure of working with.” This is nothing short of a rich wine with lovely red fruit layers from start of the nose to the black fruit flavors as the finish tapers off. The flavors are rich and ripe with a brambly strawberry preserves that carries throughout. Balance is found with bright, prominent acidity and tannin texture. It’s beautiful to see old vine Zin respected and made in this fashion. Our barrel regime is a bit different as we age in 50% new French oak with the balance in neutral barrels, rather than the conventional American oak. The subtle nuance it gives to this fruit is truly delicious!

Aged for 17 months and bottled unfined, unfiltered.

Montebuena Blanco 2021

Montebuena Blanco is made from 80% Viura and 20% Tempranillo Blanco.

What truly sets Montebuena apart is its unique position where the Ebro river is closest to the Sierra Cantabria mountains, creating a blend of Mediterranean and Continental climates that prevents an excess of rain and extreme cold. In addition, the shallow, calcareous soil limits the yield of the harvest and the size of the grapes while increasing the volume of the skins, resulting in deeper color and a greater concentration of flavor.

Montebuena Blanco is straw yellow colored, translucent with greyish hues at the edges. Dominant white fruit aromas of apple and ripe banana on the nose with citrus notes in the background. Fresh and intense on the palate, although the acidity gradually smoothes out as the wine passes through the mouth and gives way to sweetness combined with a slightly bitter note and silky feel that balances the first sensation.
